<a href="https://www.linfield.edu/president/leadership.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mark McPhail</a> is the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Linfield University in Oregon. Prior to his present position, McPhail was an Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Professor of Communications at Indiana University Northwest (IUN). 
In 2004, McPhail <a href="https://www.academia.edu/332217/A_question_of_character_Re_signing_the_racial_contract" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published an academic article entitled</a>, “A Question of Character: Re(-)Signing The Racial Contract.” McPhail writes about the theory of a “Racial Contract” which was a term coined by scholar James M. Mills. In Mills’ book <a href="https://abolitionjournal.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Mills-racial-contracxt.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Racial Contract</a>, the author states that the “Racial Contract” is based on the philosophical idea of the social contract that was developed by Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. However, Mills states it “is not a contract between everybody (&#8220;we the people&#8221;) but between just the people who count, the people who really are people (&#8220;we the white people&#8221;). So it is a Racial Contract.” McPhail explained his own understanding of Mills’ theory in the following paragraph: 
“Mills describes the Racial Contract as an ideological predisposition that informs the beliefs that people of European descent have developed about themselves and others, and the behaviors in which they have engaged as a result of those beliefs. Unlike the idealized “social contract” that accounts for racism either as abstraction or anomaly, the Racial Contract assumes “that racism is the norm and that people think of themselves as raced rather than abstract citizens, which any objective history will in fact show.”
McPhail argues that “black rhetors have sought persistently to re-sign the Racial Contract, and have contributed to the crafting in real terms of the ideals of the social contract.” Mills claims that, to the contrary, “White rhetors have largely resisted this re-signing, and have instead embraced and reshaped the Racial Contract in ways more subtle and insidious.”
Concerning the current status of this “Racial Contract”, McPhail asks the question, “Will white people ever be sorry?”At the conclusion of the article, McPhail asserts: “To re-sign the Racial Contract, whites must collectively atone for the history and consequences of white supremacy. I continue to believe that this collective atonement is unlikely.”
<a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-hires-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to The College Fix,</a> in 2021, when McPhail was a professor at Indiana University, Northwest (IUN), he was fired “amid conflicts with campus leadership over hiring practices and what he perceived as a lack of efforts to increase diversity.” McPhail was alleged by the university to have said “words to the effect that ‘the only way to end racism is to kill all white people.” McPhail is contesting this allegation. The College Fix states that “McPhail said in a previous interview with The College Fix that administrators are twisting and exaggerating something he said off-the-cuff in a private conversation as an excuse to fire him.”
In light of his termination, <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qt6Ar27nJ3cMTjfG5Ftb_ywo5LEVgjT3/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McPhail is suing</a> the Trustees of Indiana University, and three administrators of IUN on seven counts. His lawsuit states, “After McPhail criticized the administration for lack of adherence to university policies and held a forum in which he said IU Northwest’s campus climate contributed to racial disparities, Defendants banned him from teaching and reduced his salary by 70%.”

<a href="https://www.uh.edu/class/ccs/people/nicholas-de-genova/">Dr. Nicholas De Genova</a> is a professor and the Chair of the Department of Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Houston. His university biography describes him as a scholar of migration, borders, citizenship, labor, critical race, postcolonial, and ethnic studies. Dr. De Genova is an ardent advocate for abolishing national borders and has called for the death of American soldiers.
In an interview for the <a href="https://lnu.se/en/research/searchresearch/linnaeus-university-centre-for-concurrences-in-colonial-and-postcolonial-studies/">Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies</a>, Dr. De Genova <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkF0I1Z9eGo">describes his work in postcolonial studies</a> as taking the free movement of people across borders as a “natural element of the human condition.&#8221; At one point in the interview, Dr. De Genova implies that national borders should be abolished.

Throughout his work, Dr. De Genova claims that borders are used to elicit racial strife. In a piece written for the Journal of the American Anthropological Association, Dr. De Genova alleges there are <a href="http://www.americananthropologist.org/2020/03/23/everything-is-permitted-trump-white-supremacy-fascism/">parallels between Trump’s policies on the US-Mexico border and a “brutal and bellicose racial nativism” of conservative support for restrictive immigration policies. </a>
In the same paper, Dr. De Genova describes conservatives as fascists who are fomenting a racial civil war against people of color and illegal immigrants through the enforcement of immigration laws. He states:
“We must interrogate the synergies between, on the one hand, the variety of ways that Trump’s supporters are induced to endorse or emulate this brutal and bellicose racial nativism and, on the other hand, the outright cruelty and sadism, of the Trump administration’s border-enforcement tactics and the racist violence that they have institutionalized.” 
Dr. De Genova describes the United States as a nation that embodies white nationalism. Quoting author Wahneema Lubiano, Dr. De Genova states that <a href="http://www.americananthropologist.org/2020/03/23/everything-is-permitted-trump-white-supremacy-fascism/">American history has always “been some form” of white nationalism</a>.

Alleging the formation of the United States constituted racism and imperialism, Dr. De Genova called on Americans to “repudiate all forms of patriotism.”
The letter is a response to the public outcry to his teach-in at Columbia University, where Dr. De Genova called for “<a href="https://nypost.com/2003/03/31/prof-pilloried-columbia-community-condemns-words-of-hate/">a million Mogadishus” to be inflicted against American troops in Iraq</a>.

According to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=20506" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a>, Madera and a few other educators published an article, titled: “<a href="https://www.chronicle.com/article/promotion-rejected-your-record-may-not-be-the-problem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Promotion Rejected? Your Record May Not Be the Problem</a>.” The article was published by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.com/article/promotion-rejected-your-record-may-not-be-the-problem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chronicle of Higher Education</a>, also known as “The Chronicle.” Madera and his co-authors elaborate on a study of fairness and bias in tenure and promotion which “suggests that some candidates are spurned for reasons beyond their control.” The study, “<a href="https://uh.edu/class/psychology/promotionandtenurestudy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fairness and Bias in Promotion and Tenure</a>,” is being conducted through the University of Houston with multiple educators and faculty members, including Madera. The website’s mission statement is to “Determine structural barriers around promotion and tenure limiting the advancement of minority faculty and ultimately the inclusion of all demographic groups in Science.”

The authors of this article argue, “People of color, especially women of color, are the most unlikely to receive promotions or get onboarded… [A]s a woman of color in an otherwise all-white or primarily white department, and particularly in a department that is also male dominated, you may have been at a disadvantage at the outset in terms of fit…”

<a href="https://uh.edu/nsm/math/people/Instructional%20Faculty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Andrew Chang</a> is listed as a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Houston. In October 2023, Chang was <a href="https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/university-of-houston-professor-arrested-on-child-porn-charges-sources-say/285-81cfcacc-67b7-4f49-91a1-bf58b52730f7">arrested and charged</a> with five counts of possessing child pornography. 

<a href="https://www.fox26houston.com/news/university-of-houston-lecturer-faces-child-pornography-charges" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox 26 Houston reported</a>, “According to court documents Chung possessed digital images of young girls and boys under 18 engaging in sexual acts.”

Fox 26 also published a brief statement from the university:
“The University of Houston is aware of the charges filed against James Chang and his employment…has been suspended. Any further questions should be directed to the Houston Police Department or Harris County District Attorney’s Office.”
<a href="https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/criminal-justice/2023/10/12/466446/university-of-houston-lecturer-arrested-charged-with-possession-of-child-pornography/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Houston Public Media said</a>, “Chang was in possession of videos of children between eight and 13 engaging in sexual conduct…a judge set his bond at $500,000 [and Chang] cannot reside or go within 1,000 feet of areas where children gather.”

<a href="http://music.hunter.cuny.edu/faculty/full-time-faculty/philip-ewell/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Philip Ewell</a> is a Professor of Music Theory at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Music Department. Ewell’s university profile says his research interests include race studies in music theory, modal theory, and hip-hop and popular music.
Ewell is quoted in a <a href="https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2022/11/11/profile-philip-ewell-01-the-cellist-shaping-music-theorys-racial-reckoning/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yale News profile</a> stating,
“In the mid-20th century, the conceptions of excellence by which he was surrounded were deeply intertwined with ideals of whiteness and maleness. One was not supposed to admit such a notion aloud; instead, it was safer to put forth ‘that Mozart and Beethoven were simply the best composers on the planet.’”
Yale News continued,
“In his most well-known work to date, ‘Music Theory’s Racial Frame,’ Ewell argued for the existence of a structural and institutional white racial frame to the practice of music theory as a whole, and put forth the possibility of reframing the practice in a non-supremacist manner.”
Within the article, Ewell also branded his father — who is an African-American — as a racist and said he “believed deeply in the tenets of Communism.” In Ewell’s discussion regarding race in music, Yale News said, “He brought up his own Black father’s white supremacist as a counterargument; the hierarchy he imposed entailed white supremacy by definition…Ewell called this phenomenon the ‘concentric circles of white supremacy.’”

Ewell published a blog titled “<a href="https://musictheoryswhiteracialframe.wordpress.com/2020/04/10/racism-sexism-and-their-intersection-in-music-theory/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Race, Gender, and Their Intersection in Music Theory</a>” where he discusses how American music theory only recognizes Ancient Greek, Latin, Italian, French and German. He wrote, “Music theory’s white racial frame believes that the only foreign music theoretical works worth studying were written in these five languages.”
Regarding music programs on college campuses he argues, “Seminars featuring 100% white-male music theorists create hostile environments for POC (people of color) and nonmales, and, especially, nonmales of color.” He also claimed the courses are “all-white all-male seminars” that “highlight the intersection of race and gender in music theory.”

<a href="https://www.jjay.cuny.edu/faculty/gloria-j-browne-marshall" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gloria J. Browne-Marshall</a> is an Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY). In a 2013 essay, Browne-Marshall blamed the failed implementation of Obamacare on..”southern white radicals” such as Tea Party members. She wrote, “In January, President Barack Obama began his second term. However, southern White radicals vowed to stop implementation of the Obama-care law leading one to wonder if Tea Party members would oppose affordable healthcare if it came from a nonBlack [sic] President.”

<a href="https://www.journalism.cuny.edu/faculty/peter-beinart/">Peter Beinart</a> is a Professor of Journalism and Political Science at the City University of New York. He is known as an active critic of the state Israel, supports the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, and blames Hamas terrorism on the state of Israel.

Beinart has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/19/opinion/to-save-israel-boycott-the-settlements.html?_r=1&amp;ref=opinion&amp;pagewanted=all">advocated</a> for the BDS movement to serve as a way to influence Israeli policy making. Beinart has gone so far as to suggest sanctions be put on any products made by Israelis in the West Bank. 

While a fierce critic of Israel, Beinart often excuses Islamic terrorism as understandable and morally equivalent counter-reaction to Israel. In fact, he even goes so far in his book, The Crisis of Zionism, to complement the terrorist organization Hamas. He writes, “[Hamas] has in recent years issued several new documents, which are more compatible with a two-state solution.” 

In a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2019/08/19/rich-lowry-peter-beinart-debate-omar-tlaib-israel-trip-sot-lead-vpx.cnn">viral</a> debate with National Review editor Rich Lowry, Beinart was quick to defend Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar after they had been denied entry into Israel on account for their support of the BDS movement. When Lowry pointed out that each were traveling with known extremist groups that support terrorism, Beinart began frantically shouting over Lowry, claiming that terrorism is only response to the violenct Israel perpetrates.

Recently, Beinart wrote in the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/opinion/israel-annexation-two-state-solution.html">New York Times</a> that he no longer believes that Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish State.

James Davis is a <a href="https://psc-cuny.org/about-us/leadership/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Principal Officer and President of the Profession Staff Congress (PSC) </a>at the City University of New York (CUNY). He teaches in the American Studies Program and the English Department and dedicates part of his career to community organizing. Davis’ profile also says he’s a 17-year PSC activist. He “helped to wage successful chapter campaigns for health and safety, academic freedom, union membership, adjunct equity, anti-racism, and cross-title solidarity.”

Davis made headlines for his association with anti-Israel activities and organizations on campus. On September 1, 2022, <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=20073" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform reported</a>, “During a June 30, 2022, NYC Council meeting regarding anti-Semitism at CUNY, Professor Davis attributed the issue to ‘White Christian nationalism.’”

Campus Reform continued, “The Council meeting came as a response to a number of anti-Semitic incidents at CUNY…including a resolution passed on December 2021 by the CUNY Law Student Government Association demanding that the university ‘cut all ties’ with Israel and endorse the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.”

The <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dm4Sv9QsbzgdyrOhpVABkEZuLskrkcWp9MgjiQRDsG4/edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BDS Resolution</a> “is a Palestinian-led global movement that aims to end international support for Israeli violations of international by forcing companies, institutions, and governments to change their policies.”

The Resolution also “calls for the end of Israeli occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall, the recognition of the fundamental rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel, and the full right of return of Palestinian refugees.” 

Davis also supports <a href="https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/S4461" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NY State Senate Bill S4461A -The New Deal for CUNY</a>. The general purpose of the New Deal “is intended to reestablish [CUNY] as an engine for social and economic mobility by waiving all tuition and creating certain staff-to-student ratios in order to increase student success.” 

Davis <a href="https://youtu.be/SDLL_7yTq90" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke out during a protest</a> in favor of the New Deal, stating,

“Students need safe and clean buildings and excellent facilities. They deserve more academic advisers and more mental health counselors to support their progress toward their degrees. They deserve access to full-time faculty, not those that need to rush off to their next gig.” 

He continued,

“CUNY students don’t deserve anything less just because half of them come from [low-income] families. They don’t deserve less just because 80 percent of CUNY students are students of color. They don’t deserve less just because 35 percent of them were born in a foreign country. No, they deserve at least as much if not more as any other student.”

Eric Lott <a href="https://www.gc.cuny.edu/people/eric-lott" target="_blank" rel="noopener">works within the Center for Humanities at the City University of New York</a>. He’s also the Distinguished Professor of American Studies, Professor of English, and Professor of Africana Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center. Lott has authored multiple books including “Black Mirror: The Cultural Contradictions of American Racism.” 

In September 2017, the book became available for purchase through an online catalog hosted by <a href="https://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674967717" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University Press</a>. The Press published an “About This Book” section that says, 

“Blackness, as the entertainment and sports industries well know, is a prized commodity in American pop culture. Marketed to white consumers, black culture invites whites to view themselves in a mirror of racial difference, while at the same time offering the illusory reassurance that they remain ‘wholly’ white.”

The Press also mentioned Lott’s <a href="https://www.cc.com/video/ltlgca/the-daily-show-with-trevor-noah-reminder-race-is-not-a-costume" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appearance on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah</a>. The episode discussed why blackface never makes a good Halloween costume. The show also featured a Comedy Central video called “Reminder: Race is not a Costume,” which explains how cosmetically darkening one’s skin is offensive in black culture. 

Lott shows up at a Halloween party during the opening monologue, introduces himself, and proceeds to explain how blackface is “rooted in the history and politics of slavery.” He says, 

“[Blackface] is an attempt to control and own the black image. Minstrel shows dominated popular culture and when they died out at the end of that century, [it] migrated to Hollywood…Blackface performers on stage would present slaves singing, dancing, having a grand old time, cutting up, and telling jokes. The whole thing was rooted in white supremacy.”

In his book “<a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/Love_Theft/AA4LQGPw8f8C?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;dq=Love+and+Theft:+Blackface+Minstrelsy+and+the+American+Working+Class&amp;printsec=frontcover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Love and Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class,</a>” Lott further explains how minstrel shows were appropriated purely for white entertainment. He claims, 

“Although [minstrels] arose from a white obsession with black (male) bodies which underlies white racial dread to our own day, it ruthlessly disavowed its fleshly investments through ridicule and racist lampoon. Yet I am not so sure this is the end of the story.”

<a href="https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/profiles/stanley-thangaraj" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stanley “Stan” Thangaraj is an Associate Professor of Anthropology</a> at the City College of New York. He specializes in race and sports, gender and sports, and immigration. In a short video, Thangaraj explained his interest in “how immigrants negotiate what it means to be American by looking and practicing in everyday American sports.” He believes "the Trump presidency and the rise of white supremacy presented an opportunity to study the facts of racism in our country.”

In the introduction of his book, “<a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/Desi_Hoop_Dreams/V3bVCQAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;dq=desi+hoop+dreams:+pick+up+basketball+and+the+making+of+asian+american+masculinity&amp;printsec=frontcover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Desi Hoop Dreams: Pick-Up Basketball and the Making of Asian American Masculinity</a>,” Thangaraj says, “South Asian Americans participate in basketball and other mainstream U.S. sporting cultures to express sporting desires and perform identities as certain types of racialized athletes.” Thangaraj was also a guest on <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/tn/podcast/more-than-a-game-sports-race-and-masculinity/id871241283?i=1000500349600" target="_blank" rel="noopener">This Anthro Life podcast in an episode titled More than a Game: Sports, Race, and Masculinity in Diaspora</a>. The episode discussed what globally popular sports reveal about U.S. race relations and how the Black Lives Matter movement impacted nonwhite and nonblack communities.

Professor Thangaraj leads two projects focused on gender and race. The first examines how Muslim Kurdish women in America are seen not as “victims of Islamic patriarchy, [but] how women assert agency and form identities…while challenging mainstream U.S. racializations of them.” The second project is based on the Civil Rights movement's race, class, and sexuality as it is presented in the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.

Thangaraj identifies as an ally of the LGBTQ community at CCNY. Thereby, his courses affirm to students of all genders, and his classrooms and offices are “safe spaces.” Anthropology of Gender and Sexuality is primarily listed among the courses he teaches.

<a href="https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/profiles/sinead-sant-barket">Sinead Sant-Barket, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and Counseling Psychologist</a> in the City College of New York psychology department. Her research and professional interests include multicultural psychology, social justice, racial-cultural socialization, racial identity, and race-based traumatic stress.

Dr. Sant-Barket is recognized as an ally of the <a href="https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/lgbtq-student-center/allies-ccny">LGBTQ+ community at CCNY</a>. By choosing to support this community, she aims to provide a “safe space” and affirm all students regardless of their gender identity. 

Dr. Sant-Barket co-authored a peer-reviewed article entitled <a href="https://www.academia.edu/es/32121864/Race_Based_Traumatic_Stress_Racial_Identity_Statuses_and_Psychological_Functioning_An_Exploratory_Investigation">Race-Based Traumatic Stress, Racial Identity Statuses, and Psychological Functioning: An Explorative Investigation.</a> The study examines “the impact racial experiences have on people of color” as well as determines whether “race-based traumatic stress reactions combined with racial identity status attitudes are related to their psychological function.” Comments within the paper are charged at one racial group:

Dr. Sant-Barket is also partnered with the SEEK (search for education, elevation, and knowledge) program at CCNY. The state-funded program exists to help students identified as economically or academically disadvantaged through grants and other cost-free services.

<a href="https://polisci.indiana.edu/about/faculty/sinno-abdulkader.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Abdulkader Sinno</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. He also teaches Middle Eastern Studies and publishes works dealing with “public attitudes towards Muslim immigration” and the “Islamist parties’ participation in elections.”
In January 2024, Sinno was featured in the <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/shared-governance/2024/01/11/indiana-u-sanctions-professor-supporting-pro" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Inside Higher Ed article</a>, “Indiana U Sanctions Professor Who Advised Pro-Palestinian Students.” Sinno’s guest speaker was pro-Palestinian activist <a href="https://mikopeled.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Miko Peled</a>, who has called for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. According to his website, Peled also advocates for “the creation of one democratic state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians” despite the <a href="https://embassies.gov.il/holysee/AboutIsrael/the-middle-east/Pages/The%20Hamas-Covenant.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">genocidal goals</a> of the Palestinian government.
The publication explains how Sinno was temporarily <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CbFlUIN8KXaM-oLB01RcDO_1yAi2ew8n/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> after “he helped book a room on campus for a November [2023] event hosted by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a student organization.”
Inside Higher Ed said:
“Sinno booked the event space on November 6 without issue. But on November 15 … [a U.S. representative] sent a strongly worded letter to IU president Pamela Whitten, raising questions about alleged incidents of antisemitism on campus … That evening, Sinno said, his department chair told him to cancel the room reservation because he’d allegedly violated university policy by listing the department as the event sponsor.”
Over 350 faculty have signed an online <a href="https://www.petitions.net/open_letter_in_support_of_professor_abdulkader_sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">petition</a> demanding Sinno’s immediate <a href="https://politicalsciencenow.com/apsa-statement-on-indiana-universitys-sanctioning-of-professor-abdulkader-sinno/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reinstatement</a>. In March 2024, IU’s review board <a href="https://www.idsnews.com/article/2024/04/iu-administrator-violated-policy-suspending-professor-abdulkader-sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">determined</a> that university policy was violated in Sinno’s case. 
Sinno’s penalty bars him from teaching until the Fall of 2024. As of publication, he has not been reinstated.

Dr. Caitlin Bernard is a physician affiliated with IU Health and an <a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/23008/bernard-caitlin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at the IU School of Medicine.</a> Dr. Bernard is one of the few doctors in Indiana who has specific training in second-trimester abortions and she <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/28/us/politics/abortion-doctor-caitlin-bernard-ohio.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">performs both surgical and medication abortions several days a month at Planned Parenthood</a> clinincs in Indiana and Kentucky.

On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Hours after this decision, the state of Ohio outlawed any abortion after six weeks. A few days later, Dr. Bernard gained national media attention for providing an abortion to a 10-year-old girl who was pregnant from rape by an illegal immigrant. The girl traveled from Ohio when she was just over six weeks pregnant.

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced that an <a href="https://fox59.com/news/national-world/indiana-attorney-general-threatens-license-of-doctor-who-provided-abortion-to-10-year-old-rape-victim/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation into Dr. Bernard had begun</a>, stating:
“Aside from the horror caused by illegal immigration, we are investigating this situation and waiting for the relevant documents to prove if the abortion and/or the abuse were reported, as Dr. Caitlin Bernard had requirements to do both under Indiana law. The failure to do so constitutes a crime in Indiana, and her behavior could also affect her licensure. Additionally, if a HIPAA violation did occur, that may affect next steps as well. I will not relent in the pursuit of truth.” 
Dr. Bernard’s attorney, Kathleen DeLaney, has <a href="https://www.wthr.com/article/news/health/indiana-doctor-who-provided-abortion-for-10-year-old-files-claim-for-damages-against-indiana-ag-caitlin-bernard-todd-rokita/531-b2c2ba9c-ed3e-4600-906c-e7603cc8eb5a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed notice of a tort claim against AG Rokita for defamation.</a> Rokita says that his “comments are supported by facts” but will not provide additional details at this time. As of September 1, Rokita said the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220914171551/https://www.indystar.com/story/news/health/2022/09/14/indiana-attorney-general-todd-rokita-office-declines-to-share-info-on-dr-bernard-complaints/69493958007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation was “ongoing.”</a>

On May 25, 2023, the Indiana Medical Licensing Board reprimanded and fined Dr. Bernard after they determined, in a 4-1 vote, that she <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/med-professor-fined-over-abortion-of-10-year-old-girls-baby/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">violated federal and state patient privacy laws</a>. Dr. Bernard told <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/health/2022/07/01/indiana-abortion-law-roe-v-wade-overturned-travel/7779936001/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Indianapolis Star</a> that she was providing an abortion to a 10-year-old from Ohio, prior to seeing the patient.

After Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a complaint against Dr. Bernard in November 2022, the board found her liable on three counts of violating patient privacy laws. During <a href="https://www.wfyi.org/news/articles/caitlin-bernard-violated-patient-privacy-abortion-patient-case#:~:text=May%2025%2C%202023,reprimand%20over%20any%20harsher%20punishment." target="_blank" rel="noopener">the hearing</a>, Deputy Attorney General Cory Voight asked Bernard whether it was true that, had she not spoken to the Star, “we wouldn’t be sitting here today?”

Bernard disagreed, saying, “I think that if the attorney general, Todd Rokita, had not chosen to make this his political stunt, we wouldn’t be here today.”

Attorney General spokesperson Kelly Stevenson counted the board’s decision as a win for patient privacy, commenting, “It’s not right and the facts were presented today that made that very clear.”

However, the board unanimously sided against the attorney general by dismissing two other allegations against Dr. Bernard. <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/26/us/dr-caitlin-bernard-indiana-medical-board-hearing/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a> reports the board determined “she did not violate laws requiring physicians to immediately report suspected child abuse and keep abreast of mandatory reporting and patient privacy laws.”

Dr. Bernard will be fined $3,000 and will receive a letter of reprimand, which agreed to allow her to continue practicing medicine.

Board President Dr. John Strobel said, “I don’t think she expected this to go viral. I don’t think she expected this attention to be brought to this patient.” He added,
“I think she’s a good doctor and I think she’s safe to go back to practice.”

<a href="https://law.indiana.edu/about/people/details/thusi-i.-india.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">I. India Thusi</a> is a Professor of Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. According to her university profile, her research examines “racial and sexual hierarchies as they relate to policing, race, and gender.”

Professor Thusi is a Senior Scientist at the <a href="https://kinseyinstitute.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kinsey Institute</a>, previously known as the Kinsey Institute for Sex Research. The institute is named after Alfred Kinsey, who published a book during his tenure there titled “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Sexual-Behavior-Human-Alfred-Kinsey/dp/0253334128" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sexual Behavior in the Human Male</a>.”

This book features several charts that <a href="http://stopthekinseyinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/BRIEF_The-Kinsey-Institute-Exposed_A-Warning-to-Parents-and-Governments_52014.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">document the “sexual responses” of children</a> from infants through teens. The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20221217122939/https://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/03/movies/alfred-kinsey-liberator-or-pervert.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> reports, in 1995, it was discovered that much of the data used in this work came from Kinsey’s correspondence with a well-known pedophile.

In February 2023, the Indiana House voted 53-34 to <a href="https://indianacapitalchronicle.com/briefs/house-votes-to-strip-ius-kinsey-institute-of-state-funding/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prohibit state dollars</a> from going to the Kinsey Institute over concerns with the institute’s namesake. Further concerns were brought from Representative Cindy Ledbetter who said her job as a nurse practitioner has required her to take training from the Kinsey Institute on <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2023/03/08/5-bills-targeting-transgender-rights-indiana-general-assembly/69936310007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">how to administer gender-affirming medications</a> to transgender children.

As part of her work with the institute, Professor Thusi <a href="https://deliverypdf.ssrn.com/delivery.php?ID=502127090083070016029094123083082089097086084036020059023084068071008116118082029119033028006123050113058084074003090109014024062005008023034102026108125025084006116021035085100086078121019124067017092122108127109103076092012015089065084025102004005105&amp;EXT=pdf&amp;INDEX=TRUE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote a paper discussing “reality porn,”</a> which she defines as “sexually explicit materials or experiences that are facilitated through online virtual platforms.” She further defines the term by clarifying that these sexual experiences would typically “fit within the legal definition of prostitution in most states because they involve sexual conduct in exchange for a fee - but that are expressive in nature.”

Thusi writes, ”Reality porn is pornographic paid sex work that should be accorded First Amendment recognition, notwithstanding the criminalization of the underlying act of prostitution.” She notes that she has “previously argued that all forms of sex work should be decriminalized” and she extends the same argument to reality porn.
“As long as this conduct is consentable - both consented to in face and consensual in nature - it should not be deprived of constitutional protection.” 
Thusi wrote an op-ed for <a href="https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/586608-its-time-to-stop-policing-womens-bodies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a> titled, “It’s time to stop policing women’s bodies.” She believes, “Decriminalized sex work and access to abortion allow women in economic precarity [to] escape destitution.” She also argues:
“Feminists should embrace a definition of sexual freedom that goes beyond the right to prevent reproduction and which focuses on women’s sexual autonomy - including the autonomy to end a pregnancy or to profit from how women use their own bodies.”

Documents received exclusively by <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/indiana-medical-students-dei-instruction-gender-basic-human-structure-course" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> show students in a first-year “Human Structure” course—co-taught by <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/jessicabyram" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Jessica Byram</a> and Dr. Valerie O’Loughlin—are subjected to diversity, equity, and inclusion curriculum.

Fox News reports, “Students in the class receive a ‘sex and gender primer’ lesson that includes instruction on gender being a ‘social construct,’ that sex and gender are not the same thing, and on how to be a ‘more inclusive’ healthcare professional when it comes to ‘gender diverse patients.’”

<a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/17315/scott-nicole" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Nicole Scott</a> is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology and the Director of Indiana University’s School of Medicine’s OB-GYN Residency Training Program.

Dr. Scott is <a href="https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/2022/07/25/indiana-abortion-laws-could-affect-obstetric-deserts-maternal-mortality/10031897002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pro-abortion</a> and has claimed, “Abortion is not a dirty word. Abortion is a healthcare procedure that can be life-saving for some people.”

After Roe v. Wade was overturned, Dr. Scott was featured in a <a href="https://www.wthr.com/article/news/special-reports/indiana-abortion/indiana-university-school-of-medicine-adjusting-ob-gyn-residency-program-after-abortion-ban/531-8d3a24b8-29a6-48b0-981b-5c0e12ee3819" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WTHR</a> article titled, “IU School of Medicine adjusts OB-GYN residency program after abortion ban.” Dr. Scott stated, “Abortion care training is still a requirement for OB-GYN residents and the new legislation limits that to some degree for our resident doctors.”

Dr. Scott <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/08/10/1116024857/young-obgyns-indiana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claims the residents</a> in the program are “devastated” by the Roe v. Wade decision, saying, “They signed up to provide comprehensive health care to women. And they are being told that they can’t do that.”

In response, the program will begin sending residents to Illinois to receive abortion training. However, she says:
“This is not as simple as just showing up in an office and saying, ‘Can I observe?’ This includes getting a medical license for out-of-state trainees. This includes funding for travel and lodging. It adds a lot to what we already do to educate future OB-GYNs.” 
Dr. Scott is concerned that the overturn of Roe v. Wade will affect the quality of candidates that are interested in Indiana University’s School of Medicine. She says “there’s no other specialty that is legislated to the degree that obstetrics and gynecology is,” and <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/health/2022/06/30/indiana-doctors-nurses-medical-students-rally-abortion-rights-downtown/7777837001/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claims</a>:
“As an educational and research institution, we will not attract the best of the best students and trainees in a state that takes away rights of over half the population."

<a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/17959/neal-chemen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Chemen Neal</a> is an Associate Clinical Professor and the Wellness Director for the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. According to her university profile, Dr. Neal also serves on a “new board for Planned Parenthood as part of the recent merger between Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK) and Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands (PPGNHI).”

In February 2023, Dr. Neal became the first Executive Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice and Chief Diversity Officer. According <a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/news/2023/01/chemen-neal-named-ead-deij" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to a press release</a>, Dr. Neal will “work closely with academic, research and clinical leaders across the organization to advance DEIJ strategic priorities for students, trainees, faculty and staff.”

Dr. Neal stated:
“Excellence in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice elevates all members of our medical school community. As the largest medical school in the country, we have a responsibility to be leaders in health equity and inclusive excellence. To do that, DEIJ must be woven into all aspects of what we do—research, education, patient care, faculty and staff affairs, and community engagement.” 
Her new role <a href="https://www.wfyi.org/news/articles/new-leader-on-diversity-at-iu-school-of-medicine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will be responsible for a variety of areas</a>, including:
-”Developing and guiding implementation of DEIJ strategic plans” 
-”Defining and monitoring DEIJ key performance indicators”
-”Organizing affinity group, learner development and support programs” 
-”Developing programs to enhance diversity recruitment and retention”
Dr. Neal says some of her early goals in her new role include “establishing metrics to help school leadership gain a greater understanding of key areas like retention and belonging, as well as a focus on the diversification of faculty.”

She says:
“That is a big priority because of the direct relationship to health equity outcomes and organizational success. Meeting this priority will take a multifaceted approach that involves all aspects of our mission from culture to climate to research to education. After we understand where we are then we can make strategic plans for moving forward over the next several years.”

<a href="https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/9156/rouse-caroline">Dr. Caroline Rouse</a> is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. According to her Riley Children’s Health <a href="https://www.rileychildrens.org/find-a-doctor/physician/caroline-e-rouse">profile</a>, Dr. Rouse “is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist with expertise in caring for expectant mothers and their unborn babies.”

In September 2023, Dr. Rouse <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/opinion/2023/09/01/america-abortion-debate-indiana-is-crossroads-bleak-future/70727114007/">wrote an op-ed</a> with colleague Dr. Sherrine Ibrahim titled, “Indiana is the crossroads of America’s abortion debate and our future is bleak.” The authors condemn Indiana’s August 2023 <a href="https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2022ss1/bills/senate/1/details">abortion law</a>, which criminalizes abortion after 20 weeks and medication abortions after 8 weeks. They argue that “abortion is a critical health care service” and claim exceptions for rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother are not enough. They state:
“Health care practitioners continue to express that exceptions are too nebulous to follow and apply to actual clinical situations. These laws back us into a corner, forcing us to decide if we are willing to risk large fines, loss of licensure, and even imprisonment in order to provide necessary, life-saving, health care.” 
They conclude their op-ed by writing:
“Decisions regarding pregnancy do not belong in the state Capitol. They belong with patients and their health care practitioners. … If our political leaders allow the abortion ban to stay in place, Indiana’s future is bleak.” 
<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=23954">Campus Reform</a> reports that Dr. Rouse has previously been accused of “skirting state laws:”
“Voices for Life, a pro-life organization headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, filed a complaint against her on Jan. 23 of this year for performing a pill abortion on a woman who was 21 weeks pregnant, according to a termination of pregnancy report. At the time, state law only permitted pill abortions up to eight week postfertilization.” 
Melanie Lyon, Executive Director of Voices for Life, stated:
“Dr. Rouse advocates for the safety of mothers and children one day, while the next she ends babies’ lives by performing abortions at Riley Maternity Tower. That along with her apparent illegal activity makes her someone the State should hold accountable: not look to for guidance.”

<a href="https://polisci.indiana.edu/about/faculty/sinno-abdulkader.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Abdulkader Sinno</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. He also teaches Middle Eastern Studies and publishes works dealing with “public attitudes towards Muslim immigration” and the “Islamist parties’ participation in elections.”

In January 2024, Sinno was featured in the <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/shared-governance/2024/01/11/indiana-u-sanctions-professor-supporting-pro" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Inside Higher Ed article</a>, “Indiana U Sanctions Professor Who Advised Pro-Palestinian Students.” Sinno’s guest speaker was pro-Palestinian activist <a href="https://mikopeled.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Miko Peled</a>, who has called for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel. According to his website, Peled also advocates for “the creation of one democratic state with equal rights for Israelis and Palestinians” despite the <a href="https://embassies.gov.il/holysee/AboutIsrael/the-middle-east/Pages/The%20Hamas-Covenant.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">genocidal goals</a> of the Palestinian government.

The publication explains how Sinno was temporarily <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CbFlUIN8KXaM-oLB01RcDO_1yAi2ew8n/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> after “he helped book a room on campus for a November [2023] event hosted by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a student organization.”

Inside Higher Ed said:
“Sinno booked the event space on November 6 without issue. But on November 15 … [a U.S. representative] sent a strongly worded letter to IU president Pamela Whitten, raising questions about alleged incidents of antisemitism on campus … That evening, Sinno said, his department chair told him to cancel the room reservation because he’d allegedly violated university policy by listing the department as the event sponsor.”
Over 350 faculty have signed an online <a href="https://www.petitions.net/open_letter_in_support_of_professor_abdulkader_sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">petition</a> demanding Sinno’s immediate <a href="https://politicalsciencenow.com/apsa-statement-on-indiana-universitys-sanctioning-of-professor-abdulkader-sinno/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reinstatement</a>. In March 2024, IU’s review board <a href="https://www.idsnews.com/article/2024/04/iu-administrator-violated-policy-suspending-professor-abdulkader-sinno" target="_blank" rel="noopener">determined</a> that university policy was violated in Sinno’s case. 

Sinno’s penalty bars him from teaching until the Fall of 2024. As of publication, he has not been reinstated.

Gorski told students that success is based upon race, and that they should share the fruits of their “privilege,” and they should feel guilty if they have more money or success than someone else.

<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/gorski-barbara-572a6111">Barbara Gorski</a> was a Professor at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.  In order to graduate from a Dr. Gorski class, business majors must attend at least one of six lectures on the “Bigger Picture” which features an anti-Koch brother documentary. Gorski told students that success is based upon race, and that they should share the fruits of their “privilege,” and they should feel guilty if they have more money or success than someone else.

<a href="https://www.umb.edu/academics/cla/faculty/ester_shapiro">Ester Shapiro</a> is an associate professor of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Massachusetts - Boston. <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15874">Shapiro launched into a tirade against conservatives</a> during a guest lecture, accusing them of being Nazis and stating that America “baked white supremacy into the Constitution.” She stated that conservatives witnessed everything from a rebirth of fascism, to armed conservatives showing up at polls to intimidate voters.

Objecting to the professor’s remarks about children being held in cages at the border, a student tried to interject that human trafficking was a major issue that no one was talking about. Shapiro immediately cut her off and accused President Donald Trump of bragging about having sex with his daughter Ivanka.

<a href="https://www.umb.edu/academics/cla/faculty/chris_barcelos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chris Barcelos</a> is an Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Massachusetts-Boston (UMass). His academic expertise includes “critical public health, sexualities studies, queer of color critique, and transgender studies.”

Barcelos identifies as a member of the trans-community and prefers the pronouns they/them/theirs. He is listed as a <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senior and Distinguished Fellow of CATS</a> (The Center for Applied Transgender Studies). The organization's About page says, “We are an independent nonprofit research organization run by transgender people for transgender people.” 

<a href="https://chrisbarcelos.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">On his personal website</a>, Barcelos defines himself as “a humanistic social scientist and feminist educator.” His profile further states,

“My work combines critical race theory and critical sexualities studies with community-based research to analyze U.S.-based public health efforts. I focus specifically on queer sexuality, transgender health, and reproductive justice.”

Barcelos’ site also includes a link to the <a href="https://transyouthjusticeproject.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trans Youth Justice Project</a> (TYJP) — a community-based education organization specializing in trans history and trans rights. Barcelos is the co-facilitator, curriculum author, and program evaluator. <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bBYF27FvW2vmMGUUyZFAQdsSQTxoGPkj/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TYJP Remote Curriculum’s</a> Youth Recruitment and Incentives program offers enrollees a $20/hr stipend to complete a 6-week course centered on trans social justice, respectful pronoun usage, and sex education.

In response to the leaked draft of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Barcelos wrote <a href="https://genderpolicyreport.umn.edu/gendered-racial-projects-anti-trans-anti-crt-and-anti-abortion-legislation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an article for The Gender Policy Report</a> that says,

“For those with some degree of racial, economic, or gender privilege, the leak signaled the first time in their adult lives that they could lack the right to control their bodies. For students of color, queer and trans youth, economically marginalized students…the leak was part of the ongoing state violence that has long affected their communities.”

In his book, “<a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/Distributing_Condoms_and_Hope/6wb9DwAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;dq=%E2%80%9CTransgender+Reproductive+Justice%E2%80%9D+In+Reproductive+Justice+Briefing+Book,+2nd+edition:+A+Primer+on+Reproductive+Justice+and+Social+Change.+Amherst,+MA:+Center+for+Civil+Liberties+and+Public+Policy.&amp;printsec=frontcover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Distributing Condoms and Hope: The Radicalized Politics of Youth Sexual Health</a>,” Barcelos writes,

“This book makes visible the operation of power in youth sexual and reproductive health and reimagines what health promotion would look like through the lens of reproductive justice (RJ). Women of color feminist activists developed the concept of reproductive justice in the mid-1990s as a framework, vision, and social movement.”

He continued,

“[RJ] refocusses individual-level debates about reproductive ‘rights’ and ‘choice’ to emphasize a broader analysis of racial, economic, and structural constraints on power. The approach expands a singular focus on white, economically privileged women’s access to contraception and abortion to include the right to have children and to parent them with dignity and support.”

<a href="https://www.umb.edu/directory/chrisbobel/" rel="noopener">Chris Bobel</a> is a Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Boston. Her areas of expertise include “Critical Menstruation Studies,” “Body Studies” and “Critical Trauma Studies.”

Bobel’s profile says she spent nearly 20 years in the field of critical menstruation studies. In 2020, she edited and co-authored “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Palgrave-Handbook-Critical-Menstruation-Studies-ebook/dp/B08DMKGDK7/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=the+palgrave+handbook+of+critical+menstruation+studies&amp;qid=1687980465&amp;sprefix=the+palgrave%2Caps%2C219&amp;sr=8-1" rel="noopener">The Palgrave Handbook of Critical Menstruation Studies</a>.” In her chapter titled, “Introduction: Menstruation as Lens—Menstruation as Opportunity,” Bobel wrote:

“Similar to critical race studies or critical gender studies, critical menstruation studies is premised upon menstruation as a category of analysis: asking how systems of power and knowledge are built upon its understanding, and furthermore, who benefits from these social constructions.”

In February 2023, Bobel was featured in the <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=21348" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> article “‘Menstrual Equity Summit’ held at Northeastern University.” According to the Reform, Bobel said she was “neither advocating nor discouraging free bleeding. The change I promote is [a] movement toward self-determination…I use ‘menstruating in public’ symbolically, actually. The message here is one of challenging menstrual stigma.”

During the Summit, Bobel asked the audience, “In our movement work, are we too concerned with respectability politics?”

She also said she wondered if the “menstrual activism movement” was “pursuing a Band-Aid approach” and (sarcastically) asked the audience to imagine Black Lives Matter holding workshops to train people of color to politely interact with the police.

Davis, a Vice-Presidential candidate for the Communist Party USA, was once one of the <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/topten-history/hires_images/FBI-309-AngelaYvonneDavis.jpg/view">FBI’s most wanted criminals </a>for the murder of a trial judge. PJ Media reports <a href="https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2017/04/01/texas-prof-tries-to-get-conservatives-fired-over-facebook-argument-n51022">Duncan calling Davis</a> an “American terrorist,” while simultaneously denying the College Republicans the opportunity to host their women’s empowerment summit.
According to Campus Reform, Bishop then <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9002">replied</a> to Duncan’s post, stating it was a “shame” that students didn’t know the difference between Hitler and Stalin.

<a href="https://www.polisci.txstate.edu/people/faculty-bios/henderson.html">Rick Henderson</a>, a Senior Lecturer at Texas State University, accused multiple Republican presidential candidates of “talking out of [their] ass[es],” including Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, and Carly Fiorina. According to an audio recording of the class, Henderson said “So I guess if you’re Rand Paul you just go, ‘hmm, what can I pull out my ass?’ And Carly Fiorina saying that marijuana is more dangerous than beer? Talking out of her ass! And Ted Cruz, I can’t tell the difference between his mouth and his ass. I mean, what are you talking about? Are you insane?’” The diatribe caused the department chair to remind “Professor Henderson of the need to maintain a classroom climate that honors the principles of free and open expression while maintaining an appropriate level of civility.”

<a href="https://www.txst.edu/history/people/faculty-staff/goldstone.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Dwonna Naomi Goldstone</a> is an Associate Professor of History and the Director of the African-American Studies program at <a href="https://www.txst.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone teaches two courses that are required for the African-American Studies program: AAS 2310: Intro to African American Studies, and AAS 4320: Global Perspectives on the African Diaspora.

According to Dr. Goldstone’s university profile, she is currently working on three essays: one about Barbara Conrad Smith, a black undergraduate student at the University of Texas in its first year of integration (1956-1957) who was removed from the school’s opera; a second titled “Teaching While Black: A Black Professor in Trump Land”; and a third on teaching feminism in a men’s prison. 

Dr. Goldstone gave a presentation “The ‘Last’ Vestige of Segregation at UT: Desegregating the Dormitories” at the Univesity of Texas at Austin on April 21, 2022. You can watch the presentation below:

Additionally, Dr. Goldstone has made <a href="https://www.theleafchronicle.com/story/life/2016/04/08/focus-racial-tension-still-evident-campus-society/82674382/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comments referring to race, such as</a> “I have black and white students in my classes. I get the feeling a lot of the white students are there only because they have to take a diversity course. They sometimes seem resistant to the conversation. I have some students who try to speak their truth, only for it to be denied, or diminished by others. There is just not enough conversation between the races.”

These statements were made during an interview with The Leaf-Chronicle while she was a professor of English at <a href="https://www.apsu.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Austin Peay State University</a>. Dr. Goldstone was in charge of the African-American studies minor program for the last six years; she stated: “I do feel that my job, as a black professor, is to help black students specifically, to get through, but I have students of all colors coming to my office, and I help everybody… I still believe that you have to be twice as good to be equal to white people.”

<a href="https://www.masscomm.txst.edu/people/faculty/terry-bertling.html">Terry Scott Bertling</a> is a professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University. Bertling has been involved in the journalism field for many years, as stated on her university profile. 

According to <a href="https://campusreform.org/article?id=20480">Campus Reform</a>, students were assigned “an AP-style quiz” that mocked a conservative radio host who is deceased. The specific question [obtained by Campus Reform]  was multiple-choice and displayed with two examples of the same sentence: 

“He was the second right-wing radio host who mocked vaccines before dying of COVID-19” and “He was the second right wing radio host who mocked vaccines before dying of COVID-19.”

This quiz comes from the <a href="http://mycatalog.txstate.edu/undergraduate/fine-arts-communication/journalism-mass/#coursestext">“Editing and Managing Content” course</a> in the Mass Communication Department. The course description states: “Students will incorporate words, images, sound and data into storytelling across platforms. This course tightens the focus on audience, accuracy, meaning, logic, organization, style and form.”

Campus Reform reports that Office of Media Relations employee, Jayme Blaschke, “told Campus Reform that the ‘example sentences included in the assignment were all taken from published news articles.’”

Back in 2017, this curriculum was taught throughout several classroom discussions. Additionally, the passage encourages educators to introduce and incorporate strategies, lessons and talks about gender issues, sexuality, and more. “We decided to include information about the various lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities as well, given our assumption that students would already bring this topic into the overall conversation with their questions.”</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><a href="https://journals.sagepub.com/stoken/rbtfl/2yE4fgIww6IMs/full" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Critical Pedagogy Enacted in the Gay Straight Alliance: New Possibilities for a Third Space in Teacher Development</a>. Mayo argues “that the GSA advisor at Freedom High School utilized pedagogy that is critical at its core and led to effective, transformative learning outcomes for student GSA members. Wayne Bendickson, also known as <a href="https://cla.umn.edu/about/directory/profile/sisoka">Sisoka Duta</a>, is a Professor in Native American Studies at the University of Minnesota. Bendickson requires all of his students to pick a topic from a list, which includes ‘why Native American mascots should be banned from sports,’ and explain in the assignment why it is important. A counter-argument was not allowed.

<a href="https://cla.umn.edu/ais/people/faculty">Dr. Nick Estes</a> is an Assistant Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is the founder of <a href="https://therednation.org/blog/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Red Nation</a> blog and hosts a podcast with the same name. 

Dr. Estes has called for the dissolution of the United States, praised communism, and castigates white people. 

Referring to the United States as a settler colonial nation, Dr. Estes states that America is committed to the destruction of native Americans. In an article for The Guardian, Dr. Estes describes the country <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/apr/27/only-racist-ignorance-lets-rick-santorum-think-america-was-birthed-from-nothing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">as a “white supremacist empire,” and a “savage nation built on untold violence” against indigenous people</a>. 

“The erasure of Native histories and peoples – which existed long before and despite a white supremacist empire – is a founding principle of the United States. In fact, it’s still codified in US law.” 

Dr. Estes’s world views are encapsulated in The Red Nation’s <a href="https://therednation.org/10-point-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“10 Point Program,”</a> which calls for the following: 

- Return of all the nation’s land to the “original caretakers” or tribes, which would dissolve the United States. 

- Abolish all police, which Estes describes as “Indian killers” and the “foot soldiers of US occupation, racism, and misogyny.” 

- Abolish the “racist system” of capitalism.   

Dr. Estes elsewhere advocates for the total erasure of national borders. Among the demands listed on the “<a href="https://therednation.org/caucuses/beyond-borders-caucus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beyond Border Caucus</a>”—which is hosted on The Red Nation’s website—Estes calls for abolishing all borders but specifically cites America and Israel for elimination. 

In a blog post titled, <a href="https://therednation.org/the-liberation-of-palestine-represents-an-alternative-path-for-native-nations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Liberation of Palestine Represents an Alternative Path for Native Nations,”</a> Dr. Estes urges his readers to support Arab “resistance in any and all forms” against Israel. This includes the adoption of the BDS movement, which embraces the following tenets: 

- Boycotting all goods that originate from the state of Israel;

- Divesting all funds (private or public) that are allocated to Israel; and

- Placing sanctions exclusively on Israel.

His post further demands the “Right of Return,” which calls for the forcible relocation of over 7 million self-identifying Palestinian “refugees” into Israel’s current borders. This would demographically swamp Israel and transform it into a majority-Arab state.  

Dr. Estes further cites <a href="https://therednation.org/revolutionary-socialism-is-the-primary-political-ideology-of-the-red-nation-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“revolutionary socialism</a>” as the “primary political ideology of the Red Nation.” He declares Communism the “greatest expression of love,” and promises that socialism will replace capitalism once the latter is destroyed. 

Throughout the site, the Hammer and Sickle is <a href="http://therednation.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">displayed prominently</a>. The symbol was the insignia of the Soviet Union, which was responsible for as many as <a href="https://fee.org/articles/the-staggering-toll-of-the-russian-revolution/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">61 million deaths</a>.

<a href="https://cla.umn.edu/about/directory/profile/yazzi014" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Melanie Yazzie</a> is an Assistant Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. According to her university profile, she writes and teaches about numerous topics including “Indigenous feminisms,” “queer Indigenous studies,” and “Marxism.”

Yazzie participated in a December 2023 <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/professor-calls-dismantling-us-greatest-predator-empire-1855115" target="_blank" rel="noopener">panel discussion</a> with fellow University of Minnesota professor <a href="https://www.professorwatchlist.org/professor/nickestes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nick Estes</a> titled “From Minnesota to Palestine.” During the event, Yazzie <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professors-u-s-a-genocidal-settler-colonial-state-that-needs-to-be-dismantled/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called for people to “dismantle” and “decolonize” the United States</a>:
“And what we really want you to take away tonight … We’re all indigenous people who come from nations that are under occupation by the United States government. And of course, the U.S. bank rules the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. They’re one in the same, really.” 
“And so, it’s our responsibility as people who are within the United States to go as hard as possible to decolonize this place. Because that will reverberate all across the world. Because the U.S. is the greatest predator empire that has ever existed. So we want [the] U.S. out of everywhere … and the goal is to dismantle the settler project that is the United States.” 
Yazzie also argued that giving <a href="https://alphanews.org/u-of-m-professor-i-hope-you-seek-to-dismantle-the-united-states/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">land back to Native Americans</a> is “non-negotiable” and “is going to happen.”
“The United States, also built on stolen land like the settler nation of Israel, does not have the authority to speak in this place and on this land. It is the Indigenous people, who belong to Indigenous nations that predate the advent of the United States and that will be here after the United States is gone, that have the authority.” 
The panel discussion was hosted by <a href="https://therednation.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Red Nation</a>, which, according to its website, is “dedicated to the liberation of Native peoples from capitalism and colonialism.” Estes is a co-founder of the organization and Yazzie hosts a podcast through The Red Nation called the Red Power Hour. The group’s Principles of Unity declare:
“We are anti-capitalist and anti-colonial. We are Indigenous feminists who believe in radical relationality. We do not seek a milder form of capitalism or colonialism - we demand an entirely new system premised on peace, cooperation, and justice. For our Earth and relatives to live, capitalism and colonialism must die.” 
When Yazzie was a PhD student at the University of New Mexico, she was outspoken against the school seal, which features a conquistador and a frontiersman. At a <a href="https://www.liberationnews.org/activists-speak-out-against-racist-seal-university-president-stands-with-racism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">protest over the school seal</a> in 2016, Yazzie stated: “[Then-University of New Mexico President] Bob Frank you have blood on your hands! We are going to keep holding this university accountable until it concedes to our demands!”

<a href="https://directory.sph.umn.edu/bio/sph-a-z/rachel-hardeman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rachel Hardeman</a> is the Blue Cross Endowed Professor of Health and Racial Equity at the University of Minnesota. Hardeman’s university profile describes her as a “reproductive health equity researcher” who “leverages the frameworks of critical race theory and reproductive justice to inform her equity-centered work.” Hardeman is also the Founding Director of the Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity and serves on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood of the North Central States.

In October 2022, Hardeman and two other researchers penned an article titled “<a href="https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2209737" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Abortion Access as a Racial Justice Issue</a>.” The authors argue that abortion is “essential for protecting the full humanity of anyone with the capacity for pregnancy.” The paper claims that, within the United States, “the full humanity of Black and Indigenous people has long been denied.” Hardeman et al. conclude:
“We believe that clinicians have a professional obligation to champion policies that improve the lives of their patients and potential patients, including doing whatever is in their power to expand and protect abortion access. Abortion access is a racial justice issue, and it is today’s civil rights battle worthy of tenacious engagement by professionals in medicine, policy, and public health.” 
Hardeman co-developed a <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/black-birthing-people-course-offered-by-u-of-minn-planned-parenthood-board-member/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continuing education course</a> for health professionals titled “Dignity in Pregnancy &amp; Childbirth: Preventing Racial Bias in Perinatal Care.” The <a href="https://www.diversityscience.org/proven-elearning-2/minnesota-perinatal-care/#MN-Individual" target="_blank" rel="noopener">course website</a> says the goal is to give medical care providers the knowledge they need to ensure that “Black and Indigenous women and birthing people receive fully equitable patient-centered, respectful, high-quality care free of bias and discrimination.” Through the course:
“[H]ealthcare professionals have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the impact of structural racism on the health and healthcare of Black and Indigenous birthing people. They will learn strategies to interrupt institutional racism and racial bias and protect the health and well-being of Black and Indigenous mothers, birthing people, and infants.” 
One <a href="https://www.scribd.com/document/684704097/Critical-Race-Practice-Clinicians-Guide" target="_blank" rel="noopener">handout</a> for the course discusses how clinical care providers can apply a “critical race lens to relationship-centered care in pregnancy and childbirth.”

Hardeman <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/minnesota-professor-receives-800k-to-study-racialized-police-violence-and-pregnancy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">received $800,000 in grant funding</a> to study “racialized police violence” and its association with “adverse reproductive health outcomes.” The project—titled “Community Events and Pathways to Inequities in Birth Outcomes”—has a timeline from April 2021 to March 2025 and promises to “[center] racism as a fundamental cause of health inequities.” Hardeman stated:
“The findings will offer a more complete picture of the ways that community trauma, structural racism, individual-level physical and mental health consequences, and population-level disparities affect reproductive health outcomes.” 
In December 2021, Hardeman authored a paper that <a href="https://pop.umn.edu/about/announcements/over-policing-linked-higher-odds-preterm-birth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">linked preterm births to “racist policing.”</a> The study’s results “suggest that racialized police patterns borne from a history of structural racism in the United States may contribute to racial disparity in [preterm births].” However, Hardeman et al. admit, “We did not (and would not have been able to) ascertain whether the pregnant people in our study had personal contact with the police before or during pregnancy.”

In an announcement about the study published by the university’s Minnesota Population Center, Hardeman stated:
“Racism is a fundamental cause of health inequity, which means we have to apply antiracism to institutions that affect the fundamentals of our lives and communities. Our research focused on residents of Minneapolis and found that U.S.-born Black birthing people and their babies were hit the hardest by over-policing, which is a form of structural racism.”

<a href="https://cla.umn.edu/about/directory/profile/sshakhsa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sima Shakhsari</a> is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender, Women &amp; Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota. Shakhsari’s university profile says she uses the pronouns “they/he/she” and teaches several courses including “Queering Theory” and “Queer and Feminist White Savior Complex.”

Shakhsari was nominated for an associate dean position at the College of Liberal Arts’ Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. As part of the interview process, she gave a one-hour testimony to the university review panel where she <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/prof-who-denies-hamas-raped-israelis-not-selected-for-top-dei-role/24553" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied that Hamas committed rape against Israeli women</a> during the October 7 attacks. She claimed she hadn’t seen evidence of sexual violence, stating:
“Of course, any person who has been raped, I am a rape crisis counselor, I believe the survivors. I am yet to see Israeli rape survivors of Hamas come and speak.” 
Shakhsari went on to claim it’s racist to say that Hamas committed rape.
“Part of our work and part of my experience… was how men of color in the U.S. have been demonized and have been falsely accused of rape. Exactly because of racism. We know the history of lynching, of black men, lynching, of indigenous man lynching Latinos in this country… because of accusations and they’re kind of violating the innocence of white women, right?” 
“And I think this is also the force that is repeated in the context of Israel and Palestine, because Arab men have been demonized and have been marked as monstrous people who are rapists and for violence.” 
Shakhsari did not end up getting the associate dean position, which was instead given to Amelious Whyte.

<a href="https://jewishinsider.com/2023/12/sima-shakhsari-university-of-minnesota-professor-hamas-oct-7-atrocities-denial/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jewish Insider</a> reached out to Shakhsari for comment and received an automatic email reply signed, “I stand with the people of Palestine in their struggle for freedom and justice, and condemn the Israeli state’s settler colonial violence and genocide in Gaza.”

In October 2023, University of Minnesota Interim President Jeff Ettinger <a href="https://www.startribune.com/tensions-on-minnesota-campuses-rise-as-colleges-and-universities-grapple-with-the-israel-hamas-war/600317258/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued a statement condemning the Hamas attacks</a> and lamenting “the countless innocent civilians who have lost their lives, been injured, or are being held captive.” Shakhsari was one of several faculty members who penned an <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewuCmiruS5i9Fo3Av1OdOlVi5vE9KZLGB0ww4mLUjnZikqVQ/viewform?vc=0&amp;c=0&amp;w=1&amp;flr=0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">open letter</a> to Ettinger calling his statement “biased” and demanding an apology.

The letter, which was signed by over 750 university faculty and staff, stated:
“Our university’s Interim President Jeff Ettinger has issued biased statements condemning Hamas, but not holding the Israeli state responsible for its violent crimes against Palestinians … Ettinger’s statements, while intended to address the recent situation, have presented a one-sided perspective showing solidarity and concern only for Israel with no acknowledgment of the ongoing and historical suffering and death of Palestinians.” 
The letter demands an apology from President Ettinger and if one is not received, the signatories call for his statement to “be treated as an incident that merits bias reporting and investigation.”

According to her university profile, Ewig teaches courses on Gender and Public Policy. She is also a curator for the <a href="https://www.hhh.umn.edu/directory/christina-ewig" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gender Policy Report</a> at the University of Minnesota.

Among Ewig’s academic interests are “gender, race and Latin American social policy including the historical formation of Latin American social policy; the politics and effects of market-oriented social policy reforms following economic adjustment in the 1990s and 2000s; and the more recent shift toward more generous and equitable social policies.”

Ewig’s <a href="https://www.hhh.umn.edu/directory/christina-ewig" target="_blank" rel="noopener">X profile</a> biography states, “I tweet about Gender and Politics, US and Latin America.” She goes by the pronouns of “She/her/hers.”

In an interview with <a href="https://www.genderjustice.us/its-time-to-invest-in-resilience-a-conversation-with-erin-maye-quade-and-dr-christina-ewig/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gender Justice</a>, Ewig discussed masculinity and its relation to the actions of men amid national health crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, stating:
“[For instance], hand washing – [they] do not do that, wash their hands. And part of this is like the idea – Well, I’m resilient, and I’m strong so I don’t need to do these things.”
She claims that this resistance to taking health measures such as washing hands “has been inculcated in our society among men and boys.”

Ewig discusses gender on an institutional level and how it allegedly affects the socioeconomic status of the United States: 
“So I think really gender also, the third level I would talk about is really the institutional level, the way in which gender over the long-term through a variety of different practices – structures our society, structures our economy, and that’s really where state and national policy makers can step in and try to generate policies that can address these disparities that we’re seeing, whether it is of disparities care work or whether it is also other disparities that we’re also seeing in the economy in particular, as a result of this crisis.”
Toward the end of the interview, Ewig claims that various health crises in America have shown certain “structural inequalities” within the nation:
“I think that if there’s one thing that this crisis is showing us, it is showing the degree to which we have deep, deep inequalities within this country whether gender or race or class, and it’s showing the damage that those inequalities are doing to our resilience long-term, so shoring up our resilience as a nation in terms of facing another crisis of this sort will require investment, instead of austerity.”

“Free counseling services, by culturally competent counselors familiar with identifying and addressing RBF, should be available at all times, not just when our trauma has been televised.” 
She also believes black faculty should be given bereavement leave, saying:
“Some may have thought I was joking when I mentioned Black bereavement leave, but I wasn’t. We need space and time to grieve without having to explain or defend it.” 
Further, Jones says some people may just need a day off while others may need to work from home or have responsibilities taken off their plate completely.

Dr. Shaya Gregory Poku is the author of, “9 Tips for Anti-Racist Child Rearing.” The document is part of a racially-incendiary Facebook post that celebrates racial differences, instructs blacks not to have too many white friends, and calls for schools to teach about racial hierarchies in the world.
Her original comments were <a href="https://www.facebook.com/shaya.gregorypoku/posts/995249889614" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published as an address to white parents</a>, asking them to make the “struggle for racial justice” part of their daily lives.
Urging parents to embrace “racial differences,” Dr. Poku describes color-blindness as “absurd.”
“Acknowledge and celebrate differences in appearance, features, and cultural norms. Describe people referring to their racial backgrounds. Do not use euphemisms or code words.”  
“DO NOT teach kids that the world is fair or a meritocracy! Stop the propaganda!” She continues, “The U.S. (and the world) have long and violent histories of racial subjugation. The status quo – what is normative in U.S. society is racism, white supremacy, and anti-blackness. Kids need to be progressively introduced to the harm of this racial hierarchy.”
In addition to intervening when children make friends with “prejudiced” playmates, Dr. Poku recommends that parents do not “live your life in a white bubble.” This includes boycotting white-owned businesses in favor of those owned by minorities.

<a href="https://www.emerson.edu/faculty-staff-directory/kimberly-mclarin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Kimberly McLarin</a> is a Professor of Creative Writing and the Director of Popular Fiction Writing and Publishing at <a href="https://www.emerson.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emerson College</a> in Boston, Massachusetts. As of January 2022, she will additionally serve as <a href="https://berkeleybeacon.com/creative-writing-professor-appointed-interim-dean-of-graduate-and-professional-studies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Interim Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at the college</a>.

Dr. McLarin is known for her racially laden invectives directed against white people, delivered across a variety of platforms and mediums. In one article, Dr. McLarin bluntly states that white women and black women cannot be friends because of their skin color.

At the beginning of her piece, Dr. McLarin writes that <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/03/29/can-black-women-white-women-be-true-friends/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">she simply cannot trust white women:</a>

She further reveals that her closest friends have also cut off many white people from their immediate circle. Dr. McLarin echoes their sentiments, writing that white women are just, “too much trouble” to be around.

Dr. McLarin then lists what she describes are the real reasons why she isn’t friends with white women; their power and white privilege. She accuses all white women of holding and wielding racial privilege to their benefit, in particular with matters involving police officers. She describes these women as the “most ferocious” opponents of gender equality, as they “choose race over gender” on every occasion. Therefore, she contends that many white women do not wish to grapple with race and, as a result, their racial privilege.

Dr. McLarin then writes that she attributes her frustration in particular to the white women in her class. She singles out white, female students in particular for failing to comprehend systemic racism. She finishes the piece by stating that white women simply do not view black women as vulnerable, and therefore do not view black women as human.

In a separate article, Dr. McLarin goes even further; <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/03/fashion/03love.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">she states that she will not only refuse to be friends with white women, but will not date anyone that is white</a>. The piece was published in the New York Times in December of 2006, just after Dr. McLarin separated from her husband. She acknowledges the divorce was over race, admitting that her white husband’s inability to grapple with race was the deciding factor in ending their marriage.

The majority of the article explains Dr. McLarin experiences dating another colleague, who is also white. During one of their dates, Dr. McLarin found herself enraged over a conversation involving race. She writes that her hands began trembling when her date stated, “I don’t think everyone is racist.”

She would eventually break up with him, admitting that “it costs too much for me to date a white man.”

Dr. McLarin again directs her invective <a href="https://www.thesunmagazine.org/issues/550/on-white-violence-black-survival-and-learning-to-shoot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">towards white people in a piece about buying and using a gun in a hypothetical race war</a>. The article in question was published inThe Sun magazine as Dr. McLarin recounts her interaction with an NRA instructor as she attempts to buy a firearm for the first time.

Dr. McLarin expresses her contempt for her NRA-certified instructor and her uneasiness in handling a gun throughout the piece, writing that her past experience with guns had been “wholly negative.” Listing off a variety of examples of what she would describe as racialized violence, Dr. McLarin characterizes the reason for her wanting to get a gun is due to the fact that “white violence towards black people is always calculated.” She further writes, “but some things are clear: Power begets violence. Violence reinforces power. White Americans damn well know this much.”

Dr. McLarin then identifies her urgency in getting a gun; If a racial war were to break out, she would use the gun against the “violent white mobs” and “take them as they come.”

“If a civil war breaks out, I say, if violent white mobs begin roaming the country as they have done in the past, I will not worry about precision shooting. I intend to sit on my porch with my legally acquired handgun and as much ammunition as I have and perhaps a bottle of Scotch and take them as they come. I say as much to my husband. My husband, understandably, is shocked. He’s not sure he believes me. I’m pretty sure he should.” 

She then alludes that her actions are necessary and justified, questioning whether she can live in a violent society without becoming and acting just as violent.

<a href="https://cias.sdsu.edu/faculty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ghassan Zakaria</a> is a Lecturer of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages at San Diego State University (SDSU).
According to <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/arabic-professor-distributes-map-without-israel-then-pencils-103206302.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Caller</a>, in 2013, during an Arabic 101 class, Zakaria “distributed a map that omitted Israel and labeled the land mass where Israel is located as ‘Palestinian Territories.’”
After being criticized for the anti-semitic map, Zakaria, according to The Daily Caller, “redistributed the exact same map after sloppily writing ‘Israel’ and generally indicating where the country is.”
In light of criticism from pro-Israel students, “Zakaria has expressed regret to the class,” The Daily Caller reports. However, “he has not issued any apology to anyone outside the class.”

Diddy and &#8220;Baby Oil&#8221; Costumes Worn by San Diego State Students
Two students at San Diego State University have come under fire for their choice of Halloween costumes. 
One of the students, a white male, dressed up as defamed music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. His costume featured a black sport jacket, white pants, and a pink collared shirt with a red bowtie. His countenance was also covered in blackface. His partner’s costume was a simple pink outfit with a Johnson’s baby oil logo attached to her shirt. She also held a bottle of baby oil to add to the effect of her costume.
Since Combs’ arrest in September, baby oil has been associated with his name after it was discovered to be a prominent feature at his secret “freak-off” parties. Federal agents also <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1408795/diddy-allegedly-laced-baby-oil-with-date-rape-drug" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discovered</a> 1,000 baby oil bottles — allegedly laced with Rohypnol (GHB), a date rape drug — in Combs’ Miami residence after it was raided earlier in the year. 
The costumes first came to attention through a video posted on social media titled 
“How the group chat dressed for Halloween.” The video was deleted after the woman who posted the video, a fellow student, deactivated her social media accounts. <a href="https://cias.sdsu.edu/faculty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ghassan Zakaria</a> is a Lecturer of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages at San Diego State University (SDSU).

According to <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/arabic-professor-distributes-map-without-israel-then-pencils-103206302.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Caller</a>, in 2013, during an Arabic 101 class, Zakaria “distributed a map that omitted Israel and labeled the land mass where Israel is located as ‘Palestinian Territories.’”

After being criticized for the anti-semitic map, Zakaria, according to The Daily Caller, “redistributed the exact same map after sloppily writing ‘Israel’ and generally indicating where the country is.”

In light of criticism from pro-Israel students, “Zakaria has expressed regret to the class,” The Daily Caller reports. However, “he has not issued any apology to anyone outside the class.”

Dr. <a href="https://politicalscience.sdsu.edu/people/faculty/graubart_j.html">Jonathan Graubart</a> is a Professor of Political Science at San Diego State University (SDSU) and Director of the International Security and Conflict Resolution Program. According to his university biography, Dr. Graubart specializes in international relations, international law, Israel-Palestine, the UN, normative theory, and “resistance politics.”

In a July 2017 article, The College Fix reported that Dr. Graubart <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-annoyed-groundswell-good-wishes-john-mccain-calls-war-criminal/">condemned Senator McCain as a “war criminal</a>” and someone who “has championed horrifying actions” in a now-deleted Facebook post on his personal account. <a href="https://www.johnmccain.com/">John McCain</a> was a United States Senator from Arizona who <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/john-mccain-dead-at-81">served as a Navy pilot and was a prisoner of war</a> during the Vietnam War. He died in August of 2018 after a battle with brain cancer.

In the now-deleted Facebook post, Dr. Graubart stated that <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-annoyed-groundswell-good-wishes-john-mccain-calls-war-criminal/">he found himself “annoyed at the groundswell of good wishes for John McCain after his diagnosis of glioblastoma” (brain cancer).</a>.” His comment was posted <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/lawmakers-send-wishes-john-mccain-brain-tumor-announcement/story?id=48736469">just after John McCain announced his cancer diagnosis</a>.

ABC 10 News San Diego reported in July 2018 that an unnamed SDSU spokesman released a statement <a href="https://www.10news.com/news/san-diego-state-professor-makes-controversial-facebook-post">referring to Dr. Graubart’s post about McCain as “private speech”</a> that cannot be regulated. The spokesman also states that it does not “endorse” his views, nor does it have a social media policy for faculty members.

“SDSU does not have a social media policy for faculty and staff. As a public institution, we do not and cannot regulate the private speech of students, faculty or staff. However, that should not imply the university's endorsement of any particular viewpoint”

In a statement to Fox News later in 2017, Dr. Graubart stated that he posted the remarks on his private Facebook account, and therefore <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/professor-calls-mccain-a-war-criminal-annoyed-at-well-wishes-after-senators-brain-cancer-diagnosis">were written in an “off-the-cuff manner”</a> and not with a “large public in mind.”

<a href="http://library.sdsu.edu/people/ppl.php?id=123">Patrick McCarthy</a> is an Associate Dean at San Diego State University. He recently compared Republicans to an "extremist terrorist organization" on Facebook.

<a href="https://education.sdsu.edu/directory/lashae-collins" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor LaShae Collins, M.A</a>., is a professor in the Department of Africana Studies at San Diego State University. 

<a href="https://newsone.com/4425479/san-diego-state-fake-slave-persona/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsone reports</a> that in October of 2022, Collins has “come under fire” for having her students complete an assignment that requires them to “create a slave persona.” An anonymous student claims that Collins wanted them to write diary entries using “broken English” in order to make their persona “historically accurate.” The same student also said that Collins wanted her students to “wear tattered clothing to illustrate the slave experience.” 

However, the Africana Studies Department Chair, <a href="https://thedailyaztec.com/111463/news/sdsu-africana-studies-story/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Adisa Alkebulan, told The Daily Aztec</a> that “there was never a requirement (for students) to dress as slaves or speak in ‘broken English’ as has been falsely reported in some news outlets.” The assignment description, which was posted on Instagram by student Amari Jackson, seems to corroborate the Department Chair’s statement, as broken English and tattered clothing are mentioned nowhere on it (see image below):

Yet, SDSU student Robbie Jackson stated Collins told her students that dressing as a slave was optional for the assignment. Another student said that Collins told her class that past students of the course came to class dressed as slaves for the assignment, which seemed to the student imply that they could get a better grade if they did so. Another anonymous student sent The Daily Aztec a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CjllD9ZvH1s/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PDF file</a> containing actual slave narratives which was provided to the students as a resource for the assignment. The narratives are full of broken English, which made the student think that Collins was recommending her students to use such language in the assignment. 

According to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CjjI-SlvcpN/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=455c6dba-0246-45e2-8fd6-0ab7e0fd3518" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amari Jackson</a>, Collins canceled “in-class presentations where she wanted us to act and dress in our personas.”

Dr. <a href="https://bellarmine.lmu.edu/yoga/people/faculty/?expert=chris.miller2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Christopher Jain Miller</a> is the Bhagwan Mallinath Assistant Professor of Jainism and Yoga Studies at <a href="https://mission.lmu.edu/mission/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Loyola Marymount University</a>, a Jesuit University located in Los Angeles, California. In a course-wide email sent to his students, Dr. Miller threatened to reduce the grade of any student that did not announce their pronouns.

In the email—obtained by the Twitter handle, <a href="https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Libs of Tik Tok</a>—Dr. Miller informs students that they are required to list their preferred gender pronouns when submitting their next assignment. He further warns that failure to do so will result in a reduction of their grade.

“I added a new syllabus to Brightspace and the one major change we all need to take note of is that all are required to include their pronouns next to their name in their blog posts. I will count this toward your grade when I check for your name each time I grade the blogs.”

Dr. Miller then instructs a student to read an article linked in the same tweet. The URL leads to the web page, “Pronouns Matter.” The site itself lists resources that specifically <a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/inclusivelanguage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">instruct users on how to use activists' preferred pronouns</a>.

Under the, “<a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/what-and-why" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What and Why</a>,” section, the page explicitly describes the failure to use preferred pronouns as harmful and harassing to trans and non-binary persons.

“The act of making an assumption (even if correct) sends a potentially harmful message...it can be offensive or harassing to guess at someone’s pronouns and refer to them using those pronouns if that is not how that person wants to be known.”  

The web page<a href="https://www.mypronouns.org/inclusivelanguage" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> further urges students to use more “inclusive” language by refraining from using terms like, “ladies and gentlemen,” or, “boys and girls.”</a>

According to Dr. Miller's biography, his classes include, “Foundations of Yoga Studies”, “History of Modern Yoga” and, “Hinduism, Jainism, and Yoga.”

According to her <a href="https://bellarmine.lmu.edu/psychology/research/parc/ourteam/cherylgrillsphd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">university profile</a>, Cheryl Grills is “a Clinical Psychologist with a current emphasis in Community Psychology…[and] a tenured, Full Professor in the Psychology [Department]” at the University of Loyola - Marymount.

Grills is a proponent of reparations being granted to living African Americans due to the enslavement of African Americans in the United States before the Emancipation Proclamation (1863). In January of 2022, Grills was appointed to the <a href="https://reparationscomm.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National African American Reparations Commission (NAARC)</a>. In her <a href="https://reparationscomm.org/naarc-news/press-releases/dr-cheryl-grills-appointed-to-national-reparations-commission/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acceptance statement</a>, she made the following comments:
“I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams making reparations both a personal and professional matter. The work of unveiling, decolonizing and redressing the history of our enslavement and post enslavement oppression in America is long overdue.”
Continuing, she said:  
“Doing the work of reparations brings several opportunities including helping us as Black people change how we as a community understand where we are (in the tapestry of American life), how we got here (interpreting our personal and collective stories), and where we want to go (unencumbered by the weight of racism and the anti-Black narrative that dominates this society).”
In conclusion, Grills stated:
 “This is an all-hands-on deck call for ubuntu (community) and sawubona (truly seeing each other free of the lies of White superiority and Black inferiority). It is an honor to serve as a commissioner on the NAARC bringing the tools of psychology to the reparations discourse to ensure that our mental health and well-being as individuals and as a community are a central part of the process of repair.” 
Grills was president of the <a href="https://abpsi.site-ym.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Association of Black Psychologists</a> from 2011 to 2013. In an article titled <a href="https://dignityinschools.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Grills_Article.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“African Psychology,”</a> Grills touches on other metaphysical subjects. She defines “African-centered psychology [as] the dynamic manifestation of unifying African principles, values and traditions…African-Centered psychology examines the process that allows for the illumination and liberation of the spirit.”

In the <a href="https://www.ul.ac.za/application/downloads/Grills%20African%20Psychology%20Keynote.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">abstract</a> to a keynote on African psychology, Grills made the following claim: 
“​​Western Psychology grounded, in its own paradigmatic preconceptions and assumptions, has usurped authority over the province of psychology. In so doing, it has dramatically limited, on a global scale, “acceptable” questions, methods, and  evidence on matters of human behavior and ontology.” 
According to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-reparations-task-force-member-complains-preoccupation-800b-price-tag-least-important" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>, in the Spring of 2023 Grills complained about the media’s concern with the $800 billion dollar reparation amount <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/reparations-black-californians-top-800-billion-rcna77160" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposed</a> for African Americans in California:
"We want to make sure that this is presented out in a way that does not reinforce the preoccupation with a dollar figure, which is the least important piece of this. It’s important, but it’s the least important in terms of being able to get to a point in our country’s history and in California’s history where we recognize that the harm cuts across multiple areas and domains and that the repair needs to align with that. It’s really unfortunate. I’m actually sad to see that our news media is not able to nuance better. It’s almost like, ‘What’s going to be sensational’ as opposed to what’s important."

<a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/news/faculty-expert/luisa-ossa-ph-d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Luisa Ossa</a> is a Professor of Spanish and Area Chair of the Undergraduate Spanish Program at La Salle University. According to her university profile, her research interests include “Afro-Hispanic Literatures and Cultures, the Chinese presence in Latin America, and connections between racism and anti-Blackness in Latin America and the U.S.”
She is also the <a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/blog/2022/07/11/la-salle-unveils-new-black-studies-minor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Program Director for the university’s Black Studies minor</a>, which was launched in the fall of 2022. Ossa said the program came about as a way to fill a “curriculum gap” and offer something that was “more representative of the diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.” The courses will cover many topics including, “systemic racism, social justice, health and wellness, education, intersectionality, cultural contributions, and anti-racist frameworks and scholarship.”
Ossa was featured in a <a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/blog/2021/06/29/la-salle-professor-brings-lessons-on-anti-racism-into-the-classroom/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">La Salle News</a> article titled, “La Salle Professor Brings Lessons on Anti-Racism Into the Classroom.” The article discusses how Ossa shows “racism’s pervasiveness” in her courses such as “Afro-Descendants in Latin America.” She says:
“I draw parallels between the U.S. and Latin America. I’ve shown students stories about Black women who are news anchors in the U.S. who wanted to wear their hair naturally and weren’t allowed and got fired. … There were Afro-Dominican women students in the course who were willing to share their personal experiences with these issues and their own struggles which was an impactful learning experience to their non-Black peers.” 
Ossa has also been an advocate for increased anti-racism and diversity coursework within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors:
“In the past, science has been used to exploit Black people and other people of color. One of the most known examples is the Tuskegee Experiment, but there are many other examples. The erasure of Black scientists and mathematicians in curriculum is another example. Justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-racism curriculum are relevant to all fields.” 
Ossa participated in a June 2020 panel called, “Responding to Racism: A Lasallian Dialogue.” <a href="https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2020/07/catholic-educators-urged-to-be-prisoners-of-prophetic-hope" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Crux Now</a> reports she “said that talk of Catholic institutions becoming anti-racist will ring hollow if they fail to ‘address the contradictions in the Lasallian and the broader Catholic world’ that arise from the ‘massive role that the Catholic Church played in racializing slavery in the Americas.’”

<a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/sas/faculty-member/maureen-oconnell-ph-d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maureen O’Connell</a> is a Professor of Christian Ethics and Chair of the Department of Religion at La Salle University. According to her university profile, O’Connell’s current research project “explores racial identity formation, racism, and racial justice in Catholic institutions of higher education.” Her areas of expertise include “Christian/Catholic social ethics,” “the arts and social justice,” and “racism and racial justice.”

In 2012—after the death of Trayvon Martin—O’Connell wrote an opinion piece for the <a href="https://www.ncronline.org/news/justice/catholics-and-racism-examination-conscience-examination-culture" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Catholic Reporter</a> titled, “Catholics and racism: from examination of conscience to examination of culture.” O’Connell believes that Catholic social teaching is “conspicuously silent” on the issue of racism; and when it is discussed by church officials, only focuses on “voluntary, deliberate and conscious acts” of racism. O’Connell writes:
“Failing to name racism as a cultural phenomenon - a set of dispositions and perspectives on the world that are collectively learned and symbolically shared - - only perpetuates white complicity in racism.” 
She continues:
“If you want evidence that whites are indeed complicit in a culture of racism, consider the fact that we are usually unable and at times unwilling to accept responsibility for the privileges afforded to us by our white skin. … So long as whites aren’t willing to accept responsibility for the privileges afforded to us by our white skin, we are indeed complicit in a culture of racism.” 
O’Connell authored a book titled, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Undoing-Knots-Generations-American-Anti-Blackness/dp/0807016659" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Undoing the Knots: Five Generations of American Catholic Anti-Blackness</a>.” The book’s description says it is “a personal and historical examination of white Catholic anti-Blackness in the US told through five generations of one family, and a call for meaningful racial healing and justice within Catholicism.”

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220330054948/https://www.inquirer.com/news/lasalle-university-professor-book-catholic-black-20220222.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Philadelphia Inquirer</a> interviewed O’Connell about her book, asking her why she believes Catholic colleges have not “done right” by black students. O’Connell replied:
“Too much of our Catholic core curriculum or our Catholic intellectual tradition is very Eurocentric. So I think that is making it sort of hard for our students of color to see themselves in our curriculum. White students do not have places where [they] are being challenged or confronted by learning and cultures and stories that are different from that Eurocentric frame and that is not setting [them] up for success.” 
O’Connell published an article in the <a href="https://jmt.scholasticahq.com/article/11282-after-white-supremacy-the-viability-of-virtue-ethics-for-racial-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Journal of Moral Theology</a> titled, “After White Supremacy? The Viability of Virtue Ethics for Racial Justice.” In this piece, she claims, “White supremacy is the persistent driver of the ongoing evolution of racism since its more overt or blatant iterations in American history between the 1600s and the 1960s. These include ‘dysconscious racism’ or ‘covert racism’ or ‘internalized racism,’ or ‘color-blind racism.’”

She concludes:
“Catholic moral theologians need to become undone by an evolving awareness of the pervasiveness of white supremacy in the virtue tradition so that we might more effectively incorporate virtue ethics in the much-needed work for racial justice.”

<a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/news/faculty-expert/luisa-ossa-ph-d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Luisa Ossa</a> is a Professor of Spanish and Area Chair of the Undergraduate Spanish Program at La Salle University. According to her university profile, her research interests include “Afro-Hispanic Literatures and Cultures, the Chinese presence in Latin America, and connections between racism and anti-Blackness in Latin America and the U.S.”

She is also the <a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/blog/2022/07/11/la-salle-unveils-new-black-studies-minor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Program Director for the university’s Black Studies minor</a>, which was launched in the fall of 2022. Ossa said the program came about as a way to fill a “curriculum gap” and offer something that was “more representative of the diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.” The courses will cover many topics including, “systemic racism, social justice, health and wellness, education, intersectionality, cultural contributions, and anti-racist frameworks and scholarship.”

Ossa was featured in a <a href="https://www.lasalle.edu/blog/2021/06/29/la-salle-professor-brings-lessons-on-anti-racism-into-the-classroom/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">La Salle News</a> article titled, “La Salle Professor Brings Lessons on Anti-Racism Into the Classroom.” The article discusses how Ossa shows “racism’s pervasiveness” in her courses such as “Afro-Descendants in Latin America.” She says:
“I draw parallels between the U.S. and Latin America. I’ve shown students stories about Black women who are news anchors in the U.S. who wanted to wear their hair naturally and weren’t allowed and got fired. … There were Afro-Dominican women students in the course who were willing to share their personal experiences with these issues and their own struggles which was an impactful learning experience to their non-Black peers.” 
Ossa has also been an advocate for increased anti-racism and diversity coursework within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors:
“In the past, science has been used to exploit Black people and other people of color. One of the most known examples is the Tuskegee Experiment, but there are many other examples. The erasure of Black scientists and mathematicians in curriculum is another example. Justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-racism curriculum are relevant to all fields.” 
Ossa participated in a June 2020 panel called, “Responding to Racism: A Lasallian Dialogue.” <a href="https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2020/07/catholic-educators-urged-to-be-prisoners-of-prophetic-hope" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Crux Now</a> reports she “said that talk of Catholic institutions becoming anti-racist will ring hollow if they fail to ‘address the contradictions in the Lasallian and the broader Catholic world’ that arise from the ‘massive role that the Catholic Church played in racializing slavery in the Americas.’”

<a href="https://www.wheaton.edu/academics/faculty/esau-mccaulley/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Esau McCaulley</a> is an Assistant Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College.
Dr. McCaulley recently wrote a book titled <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Reading-While-Black-American-Interpretation/dp/083085486X" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Reading While Black.”</a> The Atlantic describes the book as grappling with the question of how God “views racism and police violence, and how Christians can find hope in moments of profound grief about how Black people are treated in America.”
In October 2020, Dr. McCaulley <a href="https://www.holypost.com/post/425-reading-the-bible-while-black-with-esau-mccaulley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared on a podcast called the Holy Post</a> to discuss his new book. Chapter 2 of the book is titled “New Testament and the Theology of Policing.” Dr. McCaulley discussed how Christians focus on Romans 13’s command to submit to ruling authorities. However, he says that the apostle Paul, the assumed author of the book of Romans, builds this premise on the idea that if you have done nothing evil, then you have nothing to fear. He goes on to say that black Americans who have done nothing wrong have to live in fear and that it is “intellectually dishonest” to say otherwise.
Dr. McCaulley writes an op-ed column for the New York Times. In April 2021, he wrote an op-ed titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210421013748/https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/20/opinion/derek-chauvin-verdict-floyd.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“How I’m Talking to My Kids About the Derek Chauvin Verdict.”</a> In the article, he discusses how “cruel America can be to Black bodies” and his relief that Derek Chauvin was found guilty.
In the same op-ed, he mentions how he has recently begun his Wheaton classes with discussions of anti-Asian racism, the events that took place at the Capitol on January 6th, and officer-involved shootings.
In a similar op-ed from May 2020—titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210822122943/https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/10/opinion/ahmaud-arbery-justice.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Ahmaud Arbery and the America That Doesn’t Exist”</a>—he discusses how he fears going for runs in predominantly white neighborhoods. He talks about the distrust that Black people feel towards the justice system and appeals for the country to “take responsibility for its devaluation of blackness and its complicity in violence against black bodies.” He also shares his belief that black people in America are seen as menaces instead of “fully human beings.”
In July 2021, he wrote a column titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20220417192346/https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/18/opinion/racism-christianity.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Why Christians Must Fight Systemic Racism.”</a> In the article, he says that racism is still alive and well in the United States. Dr. McCaulley says that Christians should consider that they may have biases that they’re unaware of and that training in potential hidden biases could be an opportunity for growth.
In an article for the Washington Post titled <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2019/09/23/why-it-matters-if-your-bible-was-translated-by-racially-diverse-group/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Why it matters if your Bible was translated by a racially diverse group,”</a> Dr. McCaulley argues that women and people of color often have not been included in the translation process. He advocates for black churches to join with other Christians of color and sympathetic white churches to write their own translation of the Bible.

<a href="https://www.wheaton.edu/academics/faculty/nathan-cartagena/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nathan Luis Cartagena</a> is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Wheaton College. Dr. Cartagena has dedicated his career to teaching Christians critical race theory (CRT) and advocates for the Church to adopt it as standard, Christian doctrine. 
In the article, “<a href="https://www.worldoutspoken.com/articles-blog/is-your-bible-anti-black" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Is Your Bible Anti-Black?</a>,” he accuses the King James Version (KJV) of containing “anti-blackness.” Dr. Cartagena writes that as the Bible was translated into Western languages “white supremacy, anti-blackness,” and ”European Imperialism” were embedded into the KJVs. He recommends that diverse teams of ethnic, racial, and cultural scholars be formed to purge the “historic idolatry of whiteness” from the KJV and other biblical translations.         
In an article for <a href="https://faithfullymagazine.com/critical-race-theory-christians/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Faithfully Magazine</a>, Dr. Cartagena writes that CRT is necessary to understand that America is a “racialized society.” Lamenting that many preachers won’t adopt anti-racist practices, Cartagena describes this as the Church’s “betrayal” against the “racialized minority.” 
Dr. Cartagena insists that Christians share common interests with critical race theorists. As Christ called his followers to stand with the marginalized, he writes, Christians must now stand with oppressed minorities:  
“How should Christians respond to these common interests and conclusions? They should begin by recalling that Christ and the apostles call the Church to foster justice and mercy, giving special attention to the marginalized and oppressed (see Matthew 25; James 1). Because marginalization and oppression in pigmentocracies operate along racialized lines, Christians should share the common interests of critical race theorists.” 
Critical race theory is an integral component of Dr. Cartagena’s faith. In a separate article, titled, “<a href="https://sojo.net/articles/i-found-christs-liberating-spirit-critical-race-theory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">I Found Christ’s Liberating Spirit on Critical Race Theory</a>,” he states that CRT was necessary to “decolonize” his mind. Dr. Cartagena writes that his love for God grew only after learning of the Church’s “racist colonial and imperial practices.” 
During a separate interview for the online magazine, “<a href="https://sojo.net/articles/why-nathan-cartagena-teaches-critical-race-theory-evangelicals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sojourners</a>,” Dr. Cartagena states that he felt “prompted by the spirit” to teach CRT. He further characterizes the Holy Spirit of the Trinity as an “agent of race-conscious liberation.”
“I’m thinking in distinctively trinitarian terms about how the Spirit is actually an agent of race-conscious liberation. The Spirit is going to help us see these racialized structures.”
Dr. Cartagena describes many of his students as “racialized white folks” and resistant to anti-racist practices. CRT is therefore needed, or so he argues, to remove their false ideas from “white evangelical spaces.” 
Dr. Cartagena also berates white Christians, accusing them of upholding white supremacy within the church. In one tweet, he alleges that Christians worship the God of white supremacy.

In October 2023, Cochran penned an article titled “The Israel-Hamas Attack and the Evangelical Christian Response.” He believes, “Israel has the right to seek restitution and justice for the international crimes committed against its people, but Israel should not be permitted to commit pernicious war crimes themselves as they achieve their aims.”
Cochran also believes the <a href="https://www.patheos.com/blogs/anxiousbench/2023/10/the-israel-hamas-attack-and-the-evangelical-christian-response/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lands given to Palestine should be protected from Israel</a> and, if necessary, the Gerald F. Ford Carrier Strike Group should be used “as a deterrent to restrain Israel from overreach.”
Professor Cochran disagrees with many evangelical Christians who, through their public statements, have indicated a “united front against Hamas and unequivocal support of Israel.” He claims, “The current escalating rhetoric and tenor of evangelical Christians, who have invested themselves in this conflict, has tipped toward religiously prejudicial and genocidal attitudes.”
Cochran discusses the Just War theory, defined by Russell Moore as a theory “which holds that war is always awful, but—under certain, very limited circumstances—can be morally justified.” In response, Cochran writes:
“Just War theory has long been employed by evangelicals and the U.S. to justify and cultivate an industry complex of war. While Just War theory is a helpful premise to protect one’s people, it also can be used as an exploitative means to opportunistically justify offensives that gain territorial and material advantages.”

This is not the first time Cochran has shared his thoughts on “white privilege.” In April 2023, he wrote an article titled, “<a href="https://www.patheos.com/blogs/anxiousbench/2023/04/second-amendment-rights-is-about-protecting-white-supremacy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Second Amendment Rights Is About Protecting White Supremacy</a>.” He believes that firearm possession throughout history has been a “racialized phenomenon.” He writes:
“Though microbial pathogens played their role in wiping out Amerindians across the Eastern Woodlands to the Great Lakes basin, the gun trade played its role in Indian on Indian genocidal acts of gun violence, no different than how Whites have apathetically viewed black on black gun violence in predominantly black communities during the latter twentieth and early twenty-first century.” 
He argues that the real reason people are against giving up their Second Amendment rights is due to the “disempowering effect it has for white men.”
“While many people think and argue that preserving this right is about protecting the right to sports, like marksmanship or hunting, or preserving the right to defend one’s home, in reality, the unspoken reason is that this right is symbolic of the sacred idol of white supremacy in our history.” 
“Altering this law is an admission that white men no longer have the power to protect their lives from ‘others’ who threaten them, and they no longer have the right to manipulate gun policy to protect their power, or, when all else fails, to take the lives of those they historically despised as heathens or oppressed as slaves.”

This is not the first time Cochran has shared his thoughts on “white privilege.” In April 2023, he wrote an article titled, “<a href="https://www.patheos.com/blogs/anxiousbench/2023/04/second-amendment-rights-is-about-protecting-white-supremacy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Second Amendment Rights Is About Protecting White Supremacy</a>.” He believes that firearm possession throughout history has been a “racialized phenomenon.” He writes:
“Though microbial pathogens played their role in wiping out Amerindians across the Eastern Woodlands to the Great Lakes basin, the gun trade played its role in Indian on Indian genocidal acts of gun violence, no different than how Whites have apathetically viewed black on black gun violence in predominantly black communities during the latter twentieth and early twenty-first century.” 
He argues that the real reason people are against giving up their Second Amendment rights is due to the “disempowering effect it has for white men.”
“While many people think and argue that preserving this right is about protecting the right to sports, like marksmanship or hunting, or preserving the right to defend one’s home, in reality, the unspoken reason is that this right is symbolic of the sacred idol of white supremacy in our history.” 
“Altering this law is an admission that white men no longer have the power to protect their lives from ‘others’ who threaten them, and they no longer have the right to manipulate gun policy to protect their power, or, when all else fails, to take the lives of those they historically despised as heathens or oppressed as slaves.”

According to his University biography, his current research interests include social justice education, technology and racism, and “extremist challenges to liberalism.”

Dr. Kohen is referencing a mass shooting that occurred in Christchurch, New Zealand just a few weeks prior to his tweet. During the March 2019 rampage, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53861456" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a terrorist killed 51 and injured 41 Muslim members of two separate mosques across the city</a>.
In the left-most photo of the tweet, members of TPUSA chapters can be seen posing for a photo at an event while making an “ok” sign with their hands. Dr. Kohen juxtaposes the photo with a photo of the gunman making a similar gesture.
Many regard the “ok” sign as a euphemism for signaling the phrase “white power.” Despite persistence by members of the media, <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2017/12/29/fake-news-daily-mail-uses-4chan-hoax-to-accuse-white-house-intern-of-being-white-supremacist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the “ok” signal’s connection to white supremacy is a myth</a>. The connection is thought to have originated as a prank from the site 4-chan in 2017.
Dubbed “operation o-kkk,” anonymous users were instructed to spam liberal media outlets and social media platforms to claim the “ok” sign is a symbol for “white power.” Users were then instructed to create anonymous, left-leaning accounts to retweet the prank, simulate outrage at the gesture, and further amplify the campaign.

After he was contacted by various media outlets over his comments, Dr. Kohen only proceeded to double down on his accusations. In a series of tweets, he accuses TPUSA and Breitbart News of “weaponizing the internet” over his remarks and again falsely accuses the students of flashing a “white power” sign.

Dr. Kohen is referencing a mass shooting that occurred in Christchurch, New Zealand just a few weeks prior to his tweet. During the March 2019 rampage, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-53861456" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a terrorist killed 51 and injured 41 Muslim members of two separate mosques across the city</a>.

In the left-most photo of the tweet, members of TPUSA chapters can be seen posing for a photo at an event while making an “ok” sign with their hands. Dr. Kohen juxtaposes the photo with a photo of the gunman making a similar gesture.

Many regard the “ok” sign as a euphemism for signaling the phrase “white power.” Despite persistence by members of the media, <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2017/12/29/fake-news-daily-mail-uses-4chan-hoax-to-accuse-white-house-intern-of-being-white-supremacist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the “ok” signal’s connection to white supremacy is a myth</a>. The connection is thought to have originated as a prank from the site 4-chan in 2017.

Dubbed “operation o-kkk,” anonymous users were instructed to spam liberal media outlets and social media platforms to claim the “ok” sign is a symbol for “white power.” Users were then instructed to create anonymous, left-leaning accounts to retweet the prank, simulate outrage at the gesture, and further amplify the campaign.

<a href="https://www.adl.org/blog/how-the-ok-symbol-became-a-popular-trolling-gesture" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Even the left-leaning Anti-Defamation League has declared the campaign a “hoax.</a>” Despite being widely regarded as fake, Dr. Kohen still maintains that anyone who flashes the sign is a “white nationalist.”

After he was contacted by various media outlets over his comments, Dr. Kohen only proceeded to double down on his accusations. In a series of tweets, he accuses TPUSA and Breitbart News of “weaponizing the internet” over his remarks and again falsely accuses the students of flashing a “white power” sign.

In the past, Dr. Kohen has repeatedly accused conservatives of harboring white nationalist sentiments and of supporting fascism. In a 2019 post on his personal blog, <a href="https://kohenari.net/post/181589676770#notes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he refers to conservative supporters of President Donald Trump as a “cancer.”</a>

<a href="https://cehs.unl.edu/edpsych/faculty/katie-edwards/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Katie Edwards</a> is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She also works in the university’s Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families, and Schools.
Edwards received $203,050 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to create a program called the Teen Connection Program that would <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/nih-funds-program-matching-lgbt-teens-and-adults-for-mentoring-without-parental-consent/24211" target="_blank" rel="noopener">match LGBTQ teenagers with adults</a> for “mentoring”—all without parental consent.
The <a href="https://reporter.nih.gov/search/YTGVSmjRHUeJlUgAHOQcxw/project-details/10649009#details" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grant summary</a> states:
“Minority stress theory states that peer and family rejection and internalized transphobia predict deleterious health outcomes in TGMY, underscoring the urgent need to identify effective programs that prevent psychosocial and behavioral health issues among TGMY [transgender and other gender minority youth].” 
The summary also says a problem with similar programs is they “often require guardian permission; generally occur in person via community organizations which precludes TGMY in high stigma, rural areas of the United States from accessing such programs.”
This grant proposes to “complete feasibility and pilot testing of asynchronous, group-delivered eHealth mentoring and skill-building program.” The program will recruit 140 participants between the ages of 14 and 17. Half of the participants will be placed with a mentor and half will be placed on a waitlist as the control group.
The Teen Connection Project launched during the summer of 2023 and it will run until the end of January 2025.
In a rebuttal to Edwards’ program, Nathanael Blake—an ethicist at the Ethics and Public Policy Center—shared concerns with <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-matches-lgbt-adults-with-teens-for-online-mentoring-without-parent-consent/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The College Fix</a>:
“Deliberately pairing adult strangers with children without parental knowledge, let alone consent, is a bad idea especially because these adult mentors are to be recruited online and are apparently not required to have any special training or skills other than a transgender identity.” 
This is not the only NIH-funded project Edwards is working on. She also received a $771,707 grant in 2023 to study “sexual minority men” and why their peers sexually assault them. Edwards believes one reason for this assault could be “internalized homonegativity.” Therefore, her <a href="https://reporter.nih.gov/project-details/10670426" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grant summary</a> pledges not to focus on just white men:
“To ensure racial, ethnic, and gender diversity in our sample for the purpose of addressing intersectionality we will oversample Black and/or Latinx SM [sexual minority] men as well as trans and transmasculine men.”
