According to her <a href="https://www.sdmesa.edu/_resources/newsroom/experts.php?topics=Russia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faculty profile</a>, Kanevsky’s academic interests include “Behavioral analysis (experimental and applied), General psychology, Psychology of learning and development, Medieval Russian culture and dress, [and] Soviet Union and its aftereffects.”
In a since-deleted Threads post, Kanevsky criticized the idea that Trump “took a bullet for his country” and claimed he was shot for his own “personal aggrandizement.” (See image of Threads post below):

On her personal <a href="https://linktr.ee/dr_inna" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, Kanevsky has a <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nOKrg9t04Y01z1y2WY5jOZklwLL4JMyBFmbAFXAeoIY/edit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resource</a> against homophobia featuring the following title: “Why homosexuality isn’t a choice, and why ‘Hate the sin, not the sinner’ with respect to  homosexuality is homophobia.” The resource contains a list of several texts and articles addressing the subject.

<a href="https://liberalarts.tamu.edu/anthropology/profile/filipe-vieira-de-castro/">Filipe Vieira de Castro</a> is the Frederic R. Mayer Fellow II of Nautical Archaeology, an Anthropology professor, and the Director of the Ship Reconstruction Laboratory at Texas A&amp;M University. Castro is virulently anti-Israel, has expressed anti-Christian sentiments numerous times, slandered prominent conservatives, and confronted Turning Point USA students on campus.
As confirmed by a member of the TPUSA chapter at Texas A&amp;M, Castro approached and immediately began arguing with them while they were tabling at the Memorial Student Center (MSC). Posting about the event later, he stated that TPUSA students should have no place at a university and even joked in a reply to a comment that they should be sent to the gulag for “re-education.”
Castro, among other protestors at Texas A&amp;M University, advocated for the removal of a statue of Sullivan Ross, a Confederate General and former President of the university. When <a href="http://www.thebatt.com/news/protesters-voice-their-opinions-for-and-against-the-sul-ross-statue/article_6b24ced2-ade4-11ea-a872-875170880ccd.html">interviewed</a>, he stated that the statue represented “racism” and “exclusion.”
“Why do we want a statue that stands for racism and exclusion and hatred? Statues are just artifacts, they are not history&#8230;History is in the library. If you really want to know the history of the Confederacy, go to the library.” 
While protesting to take down certain statues, he is also an advocate for erecting one of convicted terrorist Susan Rosenberg.
“With ups and downs, she has dedicated her life to fighting injustice. She deserves a statue.” 
As a self-described “rabid anti-Zionist,” Castro is a fierce opponent of the state of Israel. He regularly launches into antisemitic tirades on his personal social media account.
“Yes Israel is the world&#8217;s largest open air lunatic asylum in the world and the raving lunatics happen to belong to the most educated (and thus resourceful) community in the world&#8230;.they can, and probably will, kill us all.”
“But this is a genocidal war. Israel is fighting a genocidal war against Palestinians.”
“The Likud has been the Israeli Tea Party&#8230;It just takes the right guy&#8230;to energize it and channel it towards some easy target. That’s what Hitler did.”
His most incendiary rant was reserved for July 8th. Describing Jews as “savages” and “animals,” Castro compared the modern state of Israel to apartheid-era South Africa before castigating Jews for being insufficiently aware of their persecution in the Holocaust.
“Sadistic motherf******. Racist, savage creeps. The same hatred as in South Africa in the 1980s. Animals. And if it can be more shocking, these creeps should know how it feels to be dehumanized, insulted, beaten, assassinated for religious reasons. They ought to ask their grandparents how it felt to be persecuted.”
Castro’s ire is not only reserved for Jews. According to him, “superstitious” Christians only support Israel out of a subliminal admiration for Adolf Hitler;
“But the majority of Zionists are Evangelical Christians that want all the Jews to go to Israel so that God can bring about Armageddon or, in other words, end Hitler’s work. And their racism is stupid and violent and superstitious.”  
Castro regularly berates Christians, Jews, and other religions online.
“Certain forms of idiocy must be criminalized. America needs to go medieval on hate crimes. Police brutality on African Americans, crimes of antisemitism, Islamophobe, homophobia….Start with the instigators: pastors, imams, rabbis, nazi pundits, etc.”  
“I am always amazed with the hatred with which American Christians hate the world. They are always threatening a country (now it is Iran) or planning to invade a region, and blaming the victims for trying to defend themselves.” 
“Sure, Make the last rabbi eat the last priest and then hang him with the last entrails of the last imam. We would all prefer if there were no mosques, no churches, no synagogues, just libraries, and museums.” 
In one post, he commented that Christians should be allowed to die from COVID as the cost of attending services.
“They all want to go to church next Sunday, eat their god, or whatever they do. I think that they should be allowed to go, but before they should sign a paper and give up the write to a ventilator.”  
Prior to this, Castro seemingly celebrated that Liberty University students would potentially die from COVID:

Castro has gloated over prominent conservatives like Herman Cain and Louie Gohmert contracting and dying from COVID:
“And it is true: Covid kills the poor. It also kills some stupid, like Herman Cain, but it mostly kills the poor.” 
In other posts, he celebrated Rush Limbaugh’s cancer diagnosis, called Jordan Peterson a fascist, and claimed that Tucker Carlson is the “voice” of the Ku Klux Klan.   He wrote, “Is it horrible that I actually felt happy to learn that Rush Limbaugh is dying&#8230;I just have a nice warm feeling in my heart&#8230;?”
“Jordan Peterson doesn’t have the balls to come out as the misogynist fascist that he really is.” 
“So now, without his top writer cretin Tucker, something is not going to be the voice of the KKK anymore? Good to know.” 
He has also repeatedly attacked police officers, describing units as being “full of klansmen.”
Castro has recently received <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2020/08/19/texas-a-m-prof-filipe-castro-calls-trump-fat-klansman-hopes-he-gets-coronavirus/">widespread attention</a> for these and other incendiary remarks from various news outlets.

<a href="https://liberalarts.tamu.edu/anthropology/profile/michael-alvard/">Michael Alvard</a> is an associate professor and Cultural Anthropology Program Coordinator at Texas A&amp;M University.

In June of 2020, Alvard was <a href="https://www.kbtx.com/content/news/Texas-AM-professor-arrested-during-Saturdays-protest--571251361.html">arrested</a> while protesting at the Lawrence Sullivan Ross statue on campus. The Young Democratic Socialists of America at Texas A&amp;M posted his $3,000 bail which may have <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15230">violated</a> university rules on approved student organizations using personal banking accounts. Alvard <a href="https://www.kbtx.com/content/news/Texas-AM-professor-arrested-during-Saturdays-protest--571251361.html">released a statement</a> to a local news station, KTBX, alleging that the statue represents “institutional racism” and Ross’ life “represented ethnic cleansing, violence, slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow racism.” In his statement, he also insinuated that police officers regularly harm and kill black Americans.

"I’m a white male of privilege. Yesterday, I knew that the police would not kill me or throw me to the ground or stomp on my neck. I can afford to post bail. I’m not the story. The story is the lives of black people and other people of color in our community who must suffer day-in and day-out with the institutional racism that the Ross statue represents." 

Alvard liberally shares his views on his social media, connecting Mount Rushmore to white supremacy, sharing guides of how to tear down statues, and most strikingly, boasting how he lectures his students on how America is a systematically racist nation.

<a href="https://www.tamus.edu/texas-professor-pleads-guilty-for-hiding-connections-with-china/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zhengdong Cheng</a> is a former Chemical Engineering Professor at Texas A&amp;M University and a former researcher for NASA. The FBI, with the help of Texas A&amp;M, recently conducted an investigation against Cheng. Cheng was arrested in 2020 “on charges of conspiracy, making false statements and wire fraud.”

The FBI (Houston, Texas branch) reports that he “pleaded guilty to lying to Texas A&amp;M University about his affiliations with Chinese entities to violate his agreements with NASA.”

According to <a href="https://texasscorecard.com/state/former-texas-am-professor-pleads-guilty-after-hiding-connections-to-china/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas Scorecard</a>, Cheng’s <a href="https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-txsd-4_20-cr-00455/pdf/USCOURTS-txsd-4_20-cr-00455-0.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2020 arrest</a> disclosed his connections with “various entities or programs owned or operated either directly or indirectly by Chinese companies and/or the People’s Republic of China.” Findings from an investigation show that Cheng failed to report his employment as the “director of a soft matter institute at a technology university founded by China’s Ministry of Education.”

Additionally, <a href="https://www.kbtx.com/2022/09/23/former-texas-am-professor-nasa-researcher-takes-plea-deal-hiding-connections-with-china/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KBTX</a> reports that court documents say Cheng “willfully took steps to obscure his affiliations and collaboration with a Chinese University and at least one Chinese-owned company for several years…” Cheng agreed to pay a fine of $20,000 and $86,876 to NASA.

<a href="https://liberalarts.tamu.edu/anthropology/profile/cynthia-werner/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cynthia Werner</a> is a Professor of Anthropology and an Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&amp;M University. According to Werner’s university profile, her research has “shifted to projects that look at diversity, equity, and inclusion issues affecting faculty in higher education.” She is also part of a collaborative research team that looks at “fairness and bias in promotion and tenure review cases.” 

According to <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=20506">Campus Reform</a>, Werner and a few other educators recently published an article, titled: “<a href="https://www.chronicle.com/article/promotion-rejected-your-record-may-not-be-the-problem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Promotion Rejected? Your Record May Not Be the Problem</a>.” The article was published by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.com/article/promotion-rejected-your-record-may-not-be-the-problem" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chronicle of Higher Education</a>, also known as “The Chronicle.” In this publication, Werner and other educators elaborate on a study of fairness and bias in tenure and promotion which “suggests that some candidates are spurned for reasons beyond their control.” The study, “<a href="https://uh.edu/class/psychology/promotionandtenurestudy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fairness and Bias in Promotion and Tenure</a>,” is being conducted through the University of Houston with multiple educators and faculty members, including Werner. The website’s mission statement is to “Determine structural barriers around promotion and tenure limiting the advancement of minority faculty and ultimately the inclusion of all demographic groups in Science.”

<a href="https://www.luc.edu/theology/facultystaff/hermansenmarcia.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Marcia Hermansen</a> is a Professor and Director of the Islamic World Studies program at Loyola University Chicago. According to her university profile, Hermansen’s research interests include “Islamic Studies,” “Mysticism,” “Women and Gender,” and “Critical Theory,” among others.
The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20171218040817/http://loyolaphoenix.com/2016/11/students-faculty-discuss-aftermath-presidential-election-town-hall-meeting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Loyola Phoenix</a> reported that, after former President Donald Trump won the 2016 election, “Loyola’s College of Arts and Sciences held an emergency post-election meeting in Regis Hall to address the concerns of the student body, particularly of those who feel at risk in a Trump presidency.”
Hermansen spoke during part of the presentation that “focused on the potential consequences of President-elect Trump’s plans and how the community can get involved.” She claimed, “People don’t realize the scope of Islamophobia in this country.”
The Loyola Phoenix writes:
“Hermansen said Muslim students could be endangered by President-elect Trump’s promises to bar Muslim immigrants from entering the country. She reminded faculty to be understanding of Muslim students’ concerns.” 
Hermansen went on to say faculty members should be flexible with their deadlines for Muslim students. She stated, “If a Muslim student requests extra time to complete assignments, it may be because they feel threatened.”

He regularly teaches a course on slavery and abolition, but updated his class this year to include Donald Trump, and linked him to slavery. His courses and research often tries to link capitalism to slavery.

The <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20171218040817/http://loyolaphoenix.com/2016/11/students-faculty-discuss-aftermath-presidential-election-town-hall-meeting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Loyola Phoenix</a> reported that, after former President Donald Trump won the 2016 election, “Loyola’s College of Arts and Sciences held an emergency post-election meeting in Regis Hall to address the concerns of the student body, particularly of those who feel at risk in a Trump presidency.”

Hermansen spoke during part of the presentation that “focused on the potential consequences of President-elect Trump’s plans and how the community can get involved.” She claimed, “People don’t realize the scope of Islamophobia in this country.”

The Loyola Phoenix writes:
“Hermansen said Muslim students could be endangered by President-elect Trump’s promises to bar Muslim immigrants from entering the country. She reminded faculty to be understanding of Muslim students’ concerns.” 
Hermansen went on to say faculty members should be flexible with their deadlines for Muslim students. She stated, “If a Muslim student requests extra time to complete assignments, it may be because they feel threatened.”

<a href="https://www.luc.edu/quinlan/faculty/jennadrenten.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Jenna Drenten</a> is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Loyola University Chicago. According to her university profile, her research “explores digital consumer culture: how digital technologies and social media platforms … present new opportunities for consumers to express their identities and navigate life transitions.”

Drenten wrote an article <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/clean-pantries-are-racist-and-sexist-loyola-marketing-scholar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticizing a social media trend</a> where users post videos of different ways to stock and organize pantries. She says she’s noticed “an uptick in glamorized, stylized and fully stocked pantries on TikTok and Instagram, giving rise to a content genre I dub ‘pantry porn.’”

Drenten believes the <a href="https://theconversation.com/pantry-porn-on-tiktok-and-instagram-makes-obsessively-organized-kitchens-a-new-status-symbol-197517" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pantry is a “modern-day status symbol,”</a> writing:
“Cleanliness has historically been used as a cultural gatekeeping mechanism to reinforce status distinctions based on a vague understanding of ‘niceness’: nice people, with nice yards, in nice houses, make for nice neighborhoods.” 
However, she continues:
“What lies beneath the surface of this anti-messiness, pro-niceness stance is a history of classist, racist and sexist social structures. In my research, influencers who produce pantry porn are predominantly white women who demonstrate what it looks like to maintain a ‘nice’ home by creating a new status symbol: the perfectly organized, fully stocked pantry.” 
Drenten continues by noting the work of restocking the pantry falls to women who may have to “work overtime” to achieve the perfectly organized pantry. She concludes by saying:
“Pantry porn, as a status symbol, relies on the promise of making daily domestic work easier. But if women are largely responsible for the work required to maintain the perfectly organized pantry, it’s critical to ask: easier for whom?”

In one tweet about the former First Lady, she called Barbara Bush an “amazing racist” who “raised a war criminal.” In another tweet, she claimed to be “happy the witch is dead.”
After experiencing blowback for her remarks, Dr. Jarrar taunted her followers by claiming that she is a tenured professor who makes $100,000 a year and will never be fired.
When the university was asked to comment, <a href="http://www.fresnostatenews.com/2018/04/24/president-joseph-i-castro-letter-on-conclusion-of-review-regarding-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Castro stated</a>, “We share the deep concerns expressed by others over the personal comments made today by Professor Randa Jarrar, a professor in the English Department at Fresno State. Her statements were made as a private citizen, not as a representative of Fresno State.”
Dr. Jarrar faced no repercussions and returned to her teaching duties soon-there-after.
In the midst of the controversy, Dr. Jarrar wrote, “If you really wanna reach me, here’s my number ok?”, before <a href="https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/tempe/2018/04/19/fresno-state-professor-randa-jarrar-prank-floods-asu-hotline-barbara-bush/532486002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posting the landline of the ASU crisis line, causing the center to become inundated with calls</a>.

According to his university <a href="https://www.fresnostate.edu/socialsciences/historydept/faculty/faculty-lmaischak.html">biography</a>, Maischak teaches the courses, Colonial Americas, American History to 1877, England and Empire, United States 1789-1865, and Topics in History - Marx and Hegel for Historians. Maischak uses his personal Twitter account to call for the execution of the 45th President, Donald Trump, and refers to conservatives as fascists.

Maischak claims that fascism is the eventual result of capitalism in a paper titled, <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h6fiDilfQWGpUrKEh2zzCrBo_iOUHA8C/view">There can be no Democracy without Socialism</a>, shared on Google Drive. Describing fascism as the “creature of capitalism,” Maischak claims that capitalism facilitates the exploitation of workers, or what he describes as the establishment of a “dictatorship of capital over labor."

Maischak further <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h6fiDilfQWGpUrKEh2zzCrBo_iOUHA8C/view">cites</a> the territorial expansion, slave labor, and the outlawing of unions in Nazi Germany as examples of capitalism’s logical end. He later describes the liberties inherent in capitalism as the freedom to commit mass murder and barbarism.

Once Maischak’s tweets were published by outlets like the <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2017/04/07/professor-trump-must-hang-republicans-should-be-executed-for-each-immigrant-deported/">Daily Caller</a> and <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/local/2017/04/13/fresno-state-fbi-secret-service-probing-history-instructor-over-trump-must-hang-tweet/">Breitbart</a>, Maischak offered an initial apology for his remarks. In a written statement to the <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">Fresno Bee</a>, Maischak asks for forgiveness and states, “It was never my intent to harm anyone, nor to encourage others to harm anyone.”

According to <a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2017/08/07/after-anti-trump-tweets-fresno-state-removes-adjunct-professor-teaching-position">Inside Higher Ed</a>, Maischak’s classes were canceled by the university before he was later removed from his position following his remarks about President Trump. However, as of March 2021, Fresno State University still <a href="https://www.fresnostate.edu/socialsciences/historydept/faculty/faculty-lmaischak.html">lists</a> Maischak as a Lecturer in the History department. In addition, his personal Twitter account still <a href="https://twitter.com/LMaischak">contains</a> tweets calling for former president Donald Trump to be hanged, and tweets referring to conservatives as “fascists” that must face “repression” that have not been removed or recanted.

Following initial coverage of Maischak’s remarks in 2017, the Fresno Bee <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">reports</a> that University President, Joseph Castro, stated in a conference call with reporters that he was cooperating with an investigation of Maischak by the Secret Service, Homeland Security, and the FBI. Following this statement, Fresno Bee also <a href="https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article144293174.html">reported</a> that Maischak then accused President Castro of allowing himself to be used by a “right-wing smear machine” for cooperating with the investigation.

Further statements range from <a href="https://www.salon.com/2014/03/18/i_still_cant_stand_white_belly_dancers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accusing white belly dancers of cultural appropriation</a> to demanding that all <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=11161" target="_blank" rel="noopener">white editors step down from their positions</a>.

<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/professor-randa-jarrar-under-fire-for-calling-barbara-bush-a-racist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In 2018, Jarrar came under fire</a> after tweeting about former first lady, Barbara Bush, after her death. In one tweet about the former First Lady, she called Barbara Bush an “amazing racist” who “raised a war criminal.” In another tweet, she claimed to be “happy the witch is dead.”

After experiencing blowback for her remarks, Dr. Jarrar taunted her followers by claiming that she is a tenured professor who makes $100,000 a year and will never be fired.

When the university was asked to comment, <a href="http://www.fresnostatenews.com/2018/04/24/president-joseph-i-castro-letter-on-conclusion-of-review-regarding-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Castro stated</a>, “We share the deep concerns expressed by others over the personal comments made today by Professor Randa Jarrar, a professor in the English Department at Fresno State. Her statements were made as a private citizen, not as a representative of Fresno State.”

Dr. Jarrar faced no repercussions and returned to her teaching duties soon-there-after.

In the midst of the controversy, Dr. Jarrar wrote, “If you really wanna reach me, here’s my number ok?”, before <a href="https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/tempe/2018/04/19/fresno-state-professor-randa-jarrar-prank-floods-asu-hotline-barbara-bush/532486002/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posting the landline of the ASU crisis line, causing the center to become inundated with calls</a>.

Campus Reform records the following from Duquette’s blog: 
“Its [sic] very easy to link Trump and trumpism to yesterday&#8217;s perpetrator because we have lots of evidence that his rage was specifically directed at Trump and the GOP.”

“[T]his reality does not reduce the culpability of any perpetrator of violence in the abstract&#8230;the really scary thing is that the normalization of Trumpist incivility may make it eventually possible for violent extremists to mount successful insanity defenses in court.”

According to <a href="https://www.ccsu.edu/presidenttoro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Zulma R. Toro's university biography</a>, she is the first female and first Hispanic President of Central Connecticut State University (CCSU). In a Central Focus newsletter titled "<a href="https://www2.ccsu.edu/centralfocus/?article=112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">In Her First 100 Days, President Toro Opens New Doors</a>," Toro stated her top priorities are "increasing enrollment, becom[ing] a real community-engaged university, and diversifying sources of funding."

Toro stands accused on multiple accounts of alleged bullying and verbal abuse toward university stakeholders. In 2019, the <a href="https://www.courant.com/politics/hc-pol-mirror-ccsu-public-shaming-20191023-r7dgafyqrncrrn6ak7f7xjg7gy-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hartford Courant reported</a>, "The leader of [CCSU]'s faculty union said the release of decades-worth of investigations into sexual misconduct allegations by President Toro 'was an attempted to threaten and intimidate faculty members.'" The Hartford said, "Toro defended her decision and shot back at the union, saying its statement 'empowers the offenders and that culture of bullying and the culture of intimidation and harassment.'"

On October 6, 2022, <a href="https://insideinvestigator.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Bigelow-Email.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a CCSU employee leaked a message</a> from Institutional Advancement president Lisa Bigelow. In the email, Bigelow said she "initially tried to resolve the matter [of bullying] by reporting the behavior in violation of the Board of Regents Code of Conduct. Feeling there was no internal safe haven [to] report violations."

On November 18, President Toro sent a campus-wide message in response to <a href="https://www.darientimes.com/news/article/Central-Connecticut-CCSU-transphobic-Turning-Point-17592589.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">protests against CCSU's Turning Point chapter</a>. Dr. Tracey Owens Patton is a <a href="http://www.uwyo.edu/cojo/Faculty/Professors/tracey-patton.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor of Communication and Journalism</a> at the University of Wyoming. She is also an Adjunct Professor in African American &amp; Diaspora Studies in the School of Culture, Gender, and Social Justice. Dr. Patton’s courses include Race, Gender, Ethnicity &amp; the Media and Rhetoric and Social Justice. According to her bio, her work is “strongly influenced by critical theory and womanist theory.”
In an article for the <a href="https://www.wyomingpublicmedia.org/open-spaces/2021-10-15/university-of-wyoming-professor-says-the-legacy-of-jim-crow-still-remains-in-america" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wyoming Public Media</a>, Dr. Patton discussed how the legacy of Jim Crow is still in America. She discussed that, while perhaps it wasn’t in an official or formal sense, “it can be within that lived experience of segregation that we sometimes find ourselves in as we are living in segregated communities.” She goes on to discuss how African Americans tend to live in more urban areas while white people live in suburbs, which she compares to a modern-day version of segregation and Jim Crow.

“Because race is a social construction, understanding the impact of racialization is complicated for a few reasons. First, there is a false notion that it is possible and desirable to treat everyone the same, without regard for their race. This is a false notion because many scientific studies have shown that, in the United States at least, we all see race immediately and persistently… In other words, though race is a social construction, it is a living and active part of our daily experiences.” 
She continued on the same subject:
“Next, as a social construction, race is actively used to grant some people (those who are seen as white) rights and privileges while marginalizing or excluding others (those who are identified as “of Color”) from those same rights and privileges (Smedley &amp; Smedley, 2005). In fact, race has fairly profound material, functional, structural, social, political, and economic consequences. Put simply, race matters!”
“Desirablizing whiteness” – a concept claiming that members of non-white races desire to be white because of the alleged privilege accompanying it – is given the following description:

Rose argues that successful black people who believe in the “American dream” perpetuate white supremacy and that it’s unfortunate that many black people buy into the notion that “the American dream is available to any and everyone as long as you work hard.” Rose stated that it doesn&#8217;t help when prominent black people in the media perpetuate an idea that America is post-racial. She is also the author the book “Abolishing White Masculinity.”

<a href="https://humanities.uccs.edu/eileen-skahill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eileen Skahill</a> is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. She, along with her co-instructors, wrote an e-mail to students in a 2016 class saying that debating man's role in climate change would not be allowed and that if students did not fully accept that climate change was occurring and man-made they should not take the course.

According to the <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professors-tell-students-drop-class-dispute-man-made-climate-change/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College Fix</a>, "Opening up a debate that 98% of climate scientists unequivocally agree to be a non-debate would detract from the central concerns of environment and health addressed in this course,” the professors’ email continued.

“… If you believe this premise to be an issue for you, we respectfully ask that you do not take this course, as there are options within the Humanities program for face to face this semester and online next.”

<a href="https://www.uccs.edu/history/staff/jared-benson">Jared Benson</a> is a history lecturer at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. In a class he co-taught on American history, the instructors promoted the idea the Founding Fathers were terrorists.

<a href="https://www.uccs.edu/soc/staff/lee">Nicholas Lee</a> is an Instructor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. He co-taught an American history class which promoted the idea that the Founding Fathers were terrorists.

<a href="https://cj.ua.edu/people/erin-kearns/">Erin Kearns</a>, an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Alabama, made headlines after being recorded telling students right-wing terrorism is worse than islamic terrorism. These claims, based on the number of attacks rather than the number of casualties, were made during Kearn&#8217;s previous employment at American University. Kearns states that &#8220;only about 12 percent of terrorist attacks in the U.S. have been committed by Muslims&#8221;. After obtaining the audio files The College Fix conducted a study that did verify her statement but also shows that right-wing terrorism is responsible for less than half of the fatalities.

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20230804180348/https://english.ua.edu/people/james-a-crank/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">James Andrew Crank</a> is an Associate Professor of English and American literature at the University of Alabama. Crank’s faculty profile states that he was a co-host of the podcast “<a href="https://www.soundandthefuriouspod.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Sound and the Furious</a>” which covered topics such as racism in America, “environmental justice,” social justice and the removal of Confederate monuments from public spaces. 

Crank has authored multiple publications and edited the book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Approaches-Gone-Southern-Literary-Studies/dp/0807161586?asin=B07W99BXR7&amp;revisionId=db568cd4&amp;format=1&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New Approaches to Gone with the Wind</a>.” The publisher—who stated that “Racial and sexual identity form a cornerstone for the collection…”—gave examples of how the authors “[reframe] traditional racial identities” and “[explore] transgressive sexuality in the film version.” In the introduction, Crank wrote that “it was time for a collection that would attempt to breathe fresh air into a novel and film that had quickly become a problem in the American academy.” 

In his book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Dirty-South-Exploring-Fantasized-1970-2020/dp/0807180130/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1701368549&amp;refinements=p_27%3AJames+A.+Crank&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-1&amp;asin=B0C1QDKS74&amp;revisionId=9a9d295a&amp;format=1&amp;depth=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Dirty South: Exploring a Fantasized Region 1970-2020</a>,” Crank discussed what he called “cultural trash…in relation to the American South.” He stated:
“After <a href="https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/florida-teen-trayvon-martin-is-shot-and-killed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the murder of Trayvon Martin</a>, I realized my project needed to juxtapose southern investments in class and whiteness with the margins they create. As I explored the shadows of those margins and came to terms with my place in southern studies, one word came back to me over and over: dirty…
“That was in George Zimmerman’s mind when he trailed the young boy through his neighborhood. His perspective of [Martin] wasn’t unique; it was endemic to a white history of white thought on blackness. Dirty.”
On November 28, 2023, <a href="https://www.al.com/news/2023/11/university-of-alabama-associate-professor-jailed-on-child-porn-charges.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alabama Local News</a> reported Crank’s arrest after child rape materials were found in his home:
“[Crank], 45, is charged with two counts of possession of obscene material containing visual depictions of persons under the age of 17 involved in obscene acts. University officials released this statement: ‘The accused individual was immediately removed from campus and all facilities. We will continue to support law enforcement’s investigations.’”
Alabama Local News continued:
“The arrest was made by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force…Authorities said the warrants against Crank were the result of an ongoing investigation. Devices seized during the [home] search could lead to additional charges…Crank is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Bond will be later set by a judge.”
While Crank’s faculty profile page is <a href="https://english.ua.edu/people/james-a-crank/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no longer available</a>, the university has not released a statement detailing his employment status.

Dr. Macula has accused former President Donald J. Trump of embodying the “white power” movement, and labeled Trump voters as “civically irresponsible.”
Following the presidential victory of Donald J. Trump in November of 2016, Dr. Macula sent out an email—obtained by the Livingston County News—addressing the election to roughly 600 staff members at the university. In the letter, Dr. Macula <a href="https://www.thelcn.com/news/local/in-mass-email-suny-geneseo-professor-asks-trump-supporters-do-you-believe-in-white-power/article_9da767a7-ebeb-527d-b7cf-b50ffd2786c2.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accuses Trump’s campaign of “legitimizing the white supremacy movement.</a>” He further demands to know the rationale of the email recipients who “irresponsibly voted for Trump.”

<a href="http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/soc/faculty">Dr. Robert Weide </a>currently serves as an Assistant Professor at California State University, Los Angeles. When the Young America’s Foundation club advertised a Ben Shapiro event on Facebook, Weide spoke against the event organizers and called the conservative students “white supremacists.” Weide stated,
“FYI tough guy provocateurs, we have an open mat on campus in the gym in the USU building at 1 pm Friday and noon on Saturday if you want to show us your white supremacy.Heads up though, I lift bro…”

<a href="http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/pas/Abdullah.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Melina Abdullah</a> is a Black Lives Matter activist, a Professor, and former Chair of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, according to her university profile. 

Abdullah’s profile also states that she is a “womanist scholar-activist – understanding the role that she plays in the academy as intrinsically linked to broader struggles for the liberation of oppressed people.”

Abdullah “was a part of the historic victory that made Ethnic Studies a requirement in the Los Angeles Unified School District.” She also played a part in the formation of Black Lives Matter, and remains the leader of its Los Angeles chapter. 

According to <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/kanye-west-invited-blm-black-power-class-white-lives-matter-uproar-1748931" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek</a>, in light of Kanye West’s decision to wear a “White Lives Matter” shirt alongside Candace Owens at Paris Fashion Week, the Los Angeles Chapter of BLM invited both West and Owens to a free online “Black Power class,” taught by Director Melina Abdullah. 

In a <a href="https://www.academia.edu/36441692/_Black_Lives_Matter_Obama_and_the_future_of_Black_mobilization_An_interview_with_Melina_Abdullah_by_Yohann_Le_Moigne_Revue_Fran%C3%A7aise_d%C3%89tudes_Am%C3%A9ricaines_n_152_2017_p_18_26" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussion</a> titled “Black Lives Matter, Obama, and the Future of Black Mobilization: An Interview with Melina Abdullah by Yohann Lemoigne”, Abdullah stated the following about black conservatives: 
“There are like 5 black conservatives in the world (laughs)… There are not many black conservatives, so this myth of black conservatism is a false myth. We can just write those people off.”
Abdullah also believes “in the abolition of police,” and claims that racism has not decreased since the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement: 
“However, racism has evolved since the 1970s. Though still ingrained in social institutions, it is now much more subtle and has taken the form of what Eduardo Bonilla-Silva has called “colorblind racism”. 
The notion of “colorblind racism” according to Abdullah is “racism without racists.”

According to <a href="https://www.foxla.com/news/melina-abdullah-professor-and-co-founder-of-blm-los-angeles-on-police-commission-hearing-arrest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox 11</a>, at a police commissioner hearing in 2018, “Abdullah was detained and later arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery on a police officer. Abdullah was detained and later arrested on suspicion of committing the same offense after she allegedly made contact with another officer.” 

At a mayoral debate in May of 2022, Abdullah was removed from CSLA’s campus by police, according to <a href="https://www.lamag.com/citythinkblog/blm-activist-melina-abdullah-forcibly-removed-from-mayoral-debate-at-cal-state/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Los Angeles Magazine</a>. Abdullah stated that she was removed because she did not have a ticket to the debate. Los Angeles Magazine reports that “CSLA’s public safety team declined to explain the reasoning for the professor’s removal.”

<a href="http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/soc/faculty">Dr. Robert Weide </a>currently serves as an Assistant Professor at California State University, Los Angeles. When the Young America’s Foundation club advertised a Ben Shapiro event on Facebook, Weide spoke against the event organizers and called the conservative students “white supremacists.” Weide stated,

“FYI tough guy provocateurs, we have an open mat on campus in the gym in the USU building at 1 pm Friday and noon on Saturday if you want to show us your white supremacy.Heads up though, I lift bro…”

Dr. <a href="https://politicalscience.sdsu.edu/people/faculty/graubart_j.html">Jonathan Graubart</a> is a Professor of Political Science at San Diego State University (SDSU) and Director of the International Security and Conflict Resolution Program. According to his university biography, Dr. Graubart specializes in international relations, international law, Israel-Palestine, the UN, normative theory, and “resistance politics.”
In a July 2017 article, The College Fix reported that Dr. Graubart <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-annoyed-groundswell-good-wishes-john-mccain-calls-war-criminal/">condemned Senator McCain as a “war criminal</a>” and someone who “has championed horrifying actions” in a now-deleted Facebook post on his personal account. <a href="https://www.johnmccain.com/">John McCain</a> was a United States Senator from Arizona who <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/john-mccain-dead-at-81">served as a Navy pilot and was a prisoner of war</a> during the Vietnam War. He died in August of 2018 after a battle with brain cancer.
In the now-deleted Facebook post, Dr. Graubart stated that <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/professor-annoyed-groundswell-good-wishes-john-mccain-calls-war-criminal/">he found himself “annoyed at the groundswell of good wishes for John McCain after his diagnosis of glioblastoma” (brain cancer).</a>.” His comment was posted <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/lawmakers-send-wishes-john-mccain-brain-tumor-announcement/story?id=48736469">just after John McCain announced his cancer diagnosis</a>.

ABC 10 News San Diego reported in July 2018 that an unnamed SDSU spokesman released a statement <a href="https://www.10news.com/news/san-diego-state-professor-makes-controversial-facebook-post">referring to Dr. Graubart’s post about McCain as “private speech”</a> that cannot be regulated. The spokesman also states that it does not “endorse” his views, nor does it have a social media policy for faculty members.
“SDSU does not have a social media policy for faculty and staff. As a public institution, we do not and cannot regulate the private speech of students, faculty or staff. However, that should not imply the university&#8217;s endorsement of any particular viewpoint”

Diddy and &#8220;Baby Oil&#8221; Costumes Worn by San Diego State Students
Two students at San Diego State University have come under fire for their choice of Halloween costumes. 
One of the students, a white male, dressed up as defamed music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. His costume featured a black sport jacket, white pants, and a pink collared shirt with a red bowtie. His countenance was also covered in blackface. His partner’s costume was a simple pink outfit with a Johnson’s baby oil logo attached to her shirt. She also held a bottle of baby oil to add to the effect of her costume.
Since Combs’ arrest in September, baby oil has been associated with his name after it was discovered to be a prominent feature at his secret “freak-off” parties. Federal agents also <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1408795/diddy-allegedly-laced-baby-oil-with-date-rape-drug" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discovered</a> 1,000 baby oil bottles — allegedly laced with Rohypnol (GHB), a date rape drug — in Combs’ Miami residence after it was raided earlier in the year. 
The costumes first came to attention through a video posted on social media titled 
“How the group chat dressed for Halloween.” The video was deleted after the woman who posted the video, a fellow student, deactivated her social media accounts. <a href="https://cias.sdsu.edu/faculty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ghassan Zakaria</a> is a Lecturer of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages at San Diego State University (SDSU).

According to <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/arabic-professor-distributes-map-without-israel-then-pencils-103206302.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Caller</a>, in 2013, during an Arabic 101 class, Zakaria “distributed a map that omitted Israel and labeled the land mass where Israel is located as ‘Palestinian Territories.’”

After being criticized for the anti-semitic map, Zakaria, according to The Daily Caller, “redistributed the exact same map after sloppily writing ‘Israel’ and generally indicating where the country is.”

In light of criticism from pro-Israel students, “Zakaria has expressed regret to the class,” The Daily Caller reports. However, “he has not issued any apology to anyone outside the class.”

<a href="http://thedailyaztec.com/40678/news/middle-east-map-stirs-controversy-on-campus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Aztec</a> also reported that, according to Zakaria, the map “was never meant to be seen as political or geographical; instead it was meant to display Arabic-speaking countries—about 15 percent of Israel’s population speaks Arabic.”

In response to students who were critical of the map, an SDSU spokesman stated the following:
“While SDSU encourages scholarly debate and discussion of varying opinions, presenting inaccurate information to students in not acceptable. This inaccurate portrayal will not reoccur.”

<a href="http://library.sdsu.edu/people/ppl.php?id=123">Patrick McCarthy</a> is an Associate Dean at San Diego State University. He recently compared Republicans to an "extremist terrorist organization" on Facebook.

<a href="https://education.sdsu.edu/directory/lashae-collins" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor LaShae Collins, M.A</a>., is a professor in the Department of Africana Studies at San Diego State University. 

<a href="https://newsone.com/4425479/san-diego-state-fake-slave-persona/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsone reports</a> that in October of 2022, Collins has “come under fire” for having her students complete an assignment that requires them to “create a slave persona.” An anonymous student claims that Collins wanted them to write diary entries using “broken English” in order to make their persona “historically accurate.” The same student also said that Collins wanted her students to “wear tattered clothing to illustrate the slave experience.” 

However, the Africana Studies Department Chair, <a href="https://thedailyaztec.com/111463/news/sdsu-africana-studies-story/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Adisa Alkebulan, told The Daily Aztec</a> that “there was never a requirement (for students) to dress as slaves or speak in ‘broken English’ as has been falsely reported in some news outlets.” The assignment description, which was posted on Instagram by student Amari Jackson, seems to corroborate the Department Chair’s statement, as broken English and tattered clothing are mentioned nowhere on it (see image below):

Yet, SDSU student Robbie Jackson stated Collins told her students that dressing as a slave was optional for the assignment. Another student said that Collins told her class that past students of the course came to class dressed as slaves for the assignment, which seemed to the student imply that they could get a better grade if they did so. Another anonymous student sent The Daily Aztec a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CjllD9ZvH1s/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PDF file</a> containing actual slave narratives which was provided to the students as a resource for the assignment. The narratives are full of broken English, which made the student think that Collins was recommending her students to use such language in the assignment. 

According to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CjjI-SlvcpN/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=455c6dba-0246-45e2-8fd6-0ab7e0fd3518" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amari Jackson</a>, Collins canceled “in-class presentations where she wanted us to act and dress in our personas.”

In 2022, Anna Squires, a reporter for <a href="https://communique.uccs.edu/?p=143136" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Communique</a>, interviewed Kling about her new book, “Racist, Not Racist, Antiracist: Language and the Dynamic Disaster of American Racism.” The book discusses how situations are categorized as either racist, not racist, or antiracist. The authors argue this is a problem because there is no language to describe situations that could be considered in-between. The description states:
“This is especially true for white people, who tend to take claims of racism—be they interpersonal or institutional—as a personal attack. This is problematic, not only because it means that white people never learn about their own racially troubling behaviors, but also because such fragility keeps them from being able to engage in productive discussions about systemic racial oppression.”
The reporter, Anna Squires, said that, “at the heart of the book is the idea that America could become a W.E.B. Du Boisian democracy.” Du Bois was a profound marxist, and Kling argued that his race-centered ideas for society should be introduced in the US, saying:
“To transform the United States into a Du Boisian democracy, we need to create conversational spaces where people can engage in difficult, productive dialogue about the nature of the race-based problems American society faces and potential solutions. For this to happen, we need to find a way to converse with others about race-based incidents without triggering their white fragility. Only then do we have a chance of achieving true democratic equality for all.”

Dr. <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/ethnicstudies/people/core-faculty/jennifer-ho">Jennifer Ho</a> is a Professor of Asian American Studies and Director of the Center for Humanities &amp; the Arts at the University of Colorado-Boulder. According to her university <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/ethnicstudies/people/core-faculty/jennifer-ho">biography</a>, Professor Ho’s research interests include cultural studies, intersectionality, critical race studies, anti-racist theory, and critical mixed race studies.

Critical Theory, or Critical Race Theory, is an intellectual branch of Marxism that alleges American society and all of its founding institutions are infected with white supremacy. Furthermore, proponents of Critical Race Theory believe that people should take proactive steps to dismantle these institutions in the name of equity, which is also referred to as being “anti-racist.” Some Critical Race Theorists, such as Nikole Hannah-Jones, also <a href="https://reason.com/2020/09/23/1619-project-nikole-hannah-jones-1776-founding-race-new-york-times/">claim</a> that America’s real founding was in 1619 when the first slave stepped foot in North America, and not 1776 when the American colonies declared independence from England.

In an <a href="https://theconversation.com/white-supremacy-is-the-root-of-all-race-related-violence-in-the-us-157566">article</a> for The Conversation, titled, “White Supremacy is the Root of all race-related violence in the US,” Professor Ho alleges that all hate crimes committed in the United States are the result of white supremacy. The article is her response to the March 16th, 2021 <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/3-dead-shooting-georgia-massage-parlor-suspect-loose-n1261262">mass shooting</a> of massage parlors in Atlanta, George, that killed eight people, six of them being Asian-Americans.

Professor Ho attributes not just the March 2021 Atlanta shootings to white supremacy, but she actually attributes all hate crimes to white supremacy, regardless of whether or not they were committed by a white person. In the same <a href="https://theconversation.com/white-supremacy-is-the-root-of-all-race-related-violence-in-the-us-157566">article</a>, Professor Ho lists a series of anti-Asian hate crimes perpetrated by black men before stating that white supremacy is the cause for all of them.

In addition to claiming that “millions” of unarmed black men have been killed by police, Professor Ho also alleges that it is also racist to state that COVID-19 originated in China.

<a href="https://www.colorado.edu/ethnicstudies/people/core-faculty/reiland-rabaka" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Reiland Rabaka</a> is a Professor of Africana Studies as well as Critical Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/ethnicstudies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department of Ethnic Studies</a> at the <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Colorado at Boulder</a>. He also serves as <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/humanities/reiland-rabaka" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Professor of Humanities</a> in the <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/artsandsciences/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">College of Arts and Sciences</a>.

Dr. Rabaka identifies publicly as a “democratic socialist” and a scholar of fields such as “black radical politics,” decolonial theory, and critical race theory. His lectures depict the United States as an inherently white-supremacist nation and herald the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement as a necessary counter to systematic racism.

In a video sponsored by the university, Dr. Rabaka describes American society as having <a href="https://www.coursera.org/lecture/antiracism-2/dr-reiland-rabaka-interventions-in-racist-terminologies-qp12a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">culminated in the “social, economic, spiritual, and cultural” death of black people</a>. He attributes this to our nation's alleged addiction to “black death.”

He repeated this accusation during a lecture for Florida Gulf Coast University’s <a href="https://www.fgcu.edu/ccres/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies</a>. During the event—hosted by professor and the Center Director, <a href="https://www.fgcu.edu/directory/tthornhill">Dr. Ted Thornill</a>—Dr. Rabaka <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsS6RAfiesI&amp;ab_channel=FGCUUniversityMarketingCommunications" target="_blank" rel="noopener">characterizes the nation as a “colonial project” that was built on racial and economic enslavement</a>.

Dr. Rabaka addresses BLM at length during the Q&amp;A section, characterizing the movement as a response to the nation’s “deeply entrenched racism.” At one point, a member of the audience asks Dr. Rabaka how he would respond if BLM was characterized as a terrorist organization; Rather than answer the question, he proceeds to deflect and counter that Christopher Columbus should be considered a terrorist for committing a “holocaust” against Native Americans. He denounces both the Founding Fathers and Pilgrims in his tirade, accusing each of participating in “racial terrorism.”

Continuing, he urges “white administrators” to invest in BLM-themed curriculums and workshops in order to raise consciousness about the movement. Dr. Rabaka <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/asmagazine/2021/03/02/black-lives-matter-course-aims-foster-campus-transformation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">personally teaches a BLM-themed course at UC-Boulder</a>.

BLM was <a href="https://blacklivesmatter.com/six-years-strong/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">founded following the death</a> of Treyvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman for his murder. Although purporting to be a civil-rights organization, the movement has been tied to violent confrontations and riots across the country.

According to a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study conducted by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED)</a>, BLM can be linked to 95% of the riots around the country–notably in Summer 2020 following the death of George Floyd. In an analysis of the study, <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Federalist</a> found, “of the 633 incidents coded as riots, 88 percent are recorded as involving Black Lives Matter Activists.” The resulting riots were the largest in American history, <a href="https://fee.org/articles/george-floyd-riots-caused-record-setting-2-billion-in-damage-new-report-says-here-s-why-the-true-cost-is-even-higher/#:~:text=Only%20now%20are%20we%20beginning,%241%20billion%20to%20%242%20billion." target="_blank" rel="noopener">causing an estimated $2 billion in damages and 47 deaths.</a>

Throughout his lecture, Dr. Rabaka praises Angela Davis and Assata Shakur, whose work he considers instrumental to the BLM movement. Shakur is a former <a href="https://spectatorworld.com/topic/black-lives-matter-praising-terrorist-assata-shakur/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">member of the Black Liberation Army and convicted cop killer</a>. She currently resides in Cuba as a guest of the communist government; authorities have offered 2 million dollars for her capture.

Angela Davis is a former vice-presidential candidate for the Communist Party and early member of the Black Panther Party. Davis is notoriously known for <a href="https://archives.frontpagemag.com/fpm/hollywoods-undying-love-communist-angela-davis-arnold-ahlert/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">her role in the Marin County Civic Center Attack, which left 4 dead</a>.

Another individual Dr. Rabaka praises in his lecture is scholar W.E.B Du Bois. A prominent author at the turn of the 20th century, Du Bois was a life-long adherent to communism, going <a href="https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/stalin/biographies/1953/03/16.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">so far as to eulogize Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin after his death in 1953</a>.

In a separate lecture at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Reiland+Rabaka+" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Rabaka lauds Du Bois specifically for his contributions to socialism</a>. At one point, the professor displays pictures of Du Bois meeting with Nikita Khrushchev and Mao Zedong, hailing both as proof of Du Bois international standing.

<a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Mao-Zedong">Mao</a>—who chaired the Chinese Communist Party from 1935 until his death in 1976—is widely considered one of the deadliest heads of state in history–<a href="https://www.heritage.org/asia/commentary/the-legacy-mao-zedong-mass-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an estimated 65 million Chinese perished from his regime</a>. Mao's deadliest campaign—referred to as the “Great Leap Forward”—<a href="https://www.hudson.org/research/7342-mao-s-great-leap-forward-and-the-power-of-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">caused an estimated 40 million to die from starvation and overwork in labor camps</a>.

<a href="https://www.colorado.edu/wgst/soares" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Kristie Soares</a> is an Assistant Professor of Women &amp; Gender Studies, and Co-Director of the LGBTQ Studies Certificate Program at the <a href="https://www.colorado.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of Colorado Boulder</a>.

Jennifer Kling is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Legal Studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. In 2022, Anna Squires, a reporter for <a href="https://communique.uccs.edu/?p=143136" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Communique</a>, interviewed Kling about her new book, “Racist, Not Racist, Antiracist: Language and the Dynamic Disaster of American Racism.” The book discusses how situations are categorized as either racist, not racist, or antiracist. The authors argue this is a problem because there is no language to describe situations that could be considered in-between. The description states:
“This is especially true for white people, who tend to take claims of racism—be they interpersonal or institutional—as a personal attack. This is problematic, not only because it means that white people never learn about their own racially troubling behaviors, but also because such fragility keeps them from being able to engage in productive discussions about systemic racial oppression.”
The reporter, Anna Squires, said that, “at the heart of the book is the idea that America could become a W.E.B. Du Boisian democracy.” Du Bois was a profound marxist, and Kling argued that his race-centered ideas for society should be introduced in the US, saying:
“To transform the United States into a Du Boisian democracy, we need to create conversational spaces where people can engage in difficult, productive dialogue about the nature of the race-based problems American society faces and potential solutions. For this to happen, we need to find a way to converse with others about race-based incidents without triggering their white fragility. Only then do we have a chance of achieving true democratic equality for all.”

<a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/people/sophie-lewis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sophie Lewis</a> is a visiting scholar at the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. According to her university profile, her scholarship “operates in the spheres of trans feminist cultural criticism and queer social reproduction theory, and [her] interests include utopian critiques of the family, Marxist feminisms, Black radicalism and antiwork theory.” Lewis authored “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Abolish-Family-Manifesto-Care-Liberation/dp/1839767197" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Abolish the Family: A Manifesto for Care and Liberation</a>” which makes the case for family abolition. She also wrote “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Full-Surrogacy-Now-Feminism-Against/dp/1786637294" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family</a>” which advocates for higher rates of surrogacy to “overthrow” the family.
After Hamas terrorists attacked Israel in October 2023, Lewis <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=24238" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed a statement</a> titled, “Writers in Solidarity with Palestine.” The letter begins, “We are writers who unequivocally stand with Palestine and its fight for liberation against the illegal occupation of ‘Israel’ and the violent settler colonial apartheid state.”
Some of the letter’s claims include: 
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“The west is actively backing the ongoing settler colonial project that endorses either a slow or fast genocide, but is genocide either way.”</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Any form of Palestinian resistance is in no way equivalent to the daily violence of ‘Israeli’ settlers, the IOF (‘Israeli’ Occupying Forces), and the entire ‘Israeli’ state apparatus. Palestinian resistance exists because settler colonial occupation exists.” </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“The resistance is an ongoing response to a long history of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.” </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Politicians at all levels of government internationally, primarily those in the west, are deliberately weaponizing islamophobic and orientalist language in order to manufacture consent for genocide in Palestine, heighten surveillance and policing domestically, and suppress any manner of showing solidarity with Palestine.” </li>
</ul>
The writers end with several “calls to action” for the signatories and their institutions, including:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“To stand in firm, vocal, and unwavering solidarity with Palestinian resistance against their occupation until liberation, by amplifying Palestinian voices in a time of mass disinformation and silencing; and by openly discussing the occupation in your workplace, home, on social media, in your work.” </li>

University of Pennsylvania Professor <a href="https://rels.sas.upenn.edu/people/anthea-butler" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anthea Butler</a> penned an MSNBC <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/olympics-2024-apology-christians-last-supper-elon-musk-mike-johnson-rcna164008" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion editorial</a> responding to the controversial 2024 Olympics' opening ceremony where “transgender” performers mocked Leonardo da Vinci’s depiction of The Last Supper.

Butler offered the following explanation in light of the sacrilegious production:
“[I]t wasn’t about the Last Supper at all. The so-called re-enactment was a scene of a bacchanal, a fest of the Greek god Dionysus …  Thell that, though, to those unable to see the scene outside the lens of their conservative religious convictions … Tolerance, sadly, isn’t what conservatives are noted for, especially since many of them deemed the 2024 Olympics ‘woke.’”
She further claimed that Christians have a “limited” worldview that “doesn’t consider views that fall outside their faith.”

Butler has a history of demonizing Christianity, including this quote from <a href="https://www.amazon.com/White-Evangelical-Racism-Politics-Morality/dp/1469661179?asin=B08JG7NHXQ&amp;revisionId=37269deb&amp;format=1&amp;depth=1">her book</a>, “White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America” :
“White Evangelical Racism tells a concise history of the evangelical movement and—here is the hard part—the racist and racial elements that imbue its beliefs, practices, and social and political activism. It is racism that binds and blinds many white American evangelicals to the vilification of Muslims, Latinos, and African Americans … Racism is a feature, not a bug, of American evangelicalism.”
In response to the outrage among religious conservatives after viewing the Olympics ceremony, Butler <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/olympics-2024-apology-christians-last-supper-elon-musk-mike-johnson-rcna164008" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>:

Identity Politics

Butler advocates for professors to strike on the job in order to promote social justice causes. First tweeting her support for an NBA-style<a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nba/article/emotional-frustrated-raptors-discussed-boycott-wake-jacob-blake-shooting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> strike</a> to protest “police violence,” Butler then created her own strike aimed at school and university staff called “Scholar Strike.” 

<a href="https://www.scholarstrike.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instructing</a> professors and faculty members of colleges and universities to walk out of their positions and teaching duties for two days, Scholar Strike intends to “call awareness to the racial climate in America, and the rash [sic] of police shootings and racialized violence.” As a result, hundreds of academics<a href="https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/08/28/professors-plan-strike-racial-justice"> pledged</a> to join the strike.

In a 2020 Twitter thread, Butler also<a href="https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=15673" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> describes</a> conservatives as “craven and evil.” She levels<a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/ivy-league-professor-award-carson-coon-of-the-year" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> attacks</a> against Dr. Ben Carson as the  “the coon of the year” over comments he made regarding the confederate flag.<a href="https://www.britannica.com/biography/Ben-Carson" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Dr. Ben Carson</a> is a renowned neurosurgeon who served as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Trump Administration.

Butler believes that conservative candidates continue to receive support en masse from evangelicals due to fear.<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/white-evangelicals-love-trump-aren-t-confused-about-why-no-ncna1046826" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Writing</a> for NBC News, Butler accuses conservatives of voting in order to preserve what political power they still have. Historically a dominant force, Butler states, evangelicals turn to authoritarians like Trump in order to protect themselves from societal change. She continues, stating that this is not a unique phenomenon, as Evangelicals have a long history of supporting racist movements and institutions.

The core of Butler’s popular authorship is her allegations of the overlap between evangelicalism and white supremacy, having written a book entitled,<a href="https://uncpress.org/book/9781469661179/white-evangelical-racism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> White Evangelical Racism</a> explaining this indictment. Interviewing on “Act. tv,” she<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMZpsrYGLeA&amp;ab_channel=act.tv" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> claims</a> that the history of Christianity in the United States is interwoven with the institution of slavery and support of the Ku Klux Klan.

During the same interview, Butler claims that evangelicals believe that police are “ordained” by God to kill black people.

In a <a href="https://twitter.com/AntheaButler/status/1351922696989380609" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweet</a> from January 2021, Butler repeated a claim from the same book that racism is inherent in evangelicals.

<a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/people/jonathan-d-katz">Dr. Jonathan Katz</a> is an Associate Professor of Associate Professor of Practice and the History of Art at the <a href="https://www.upenn.edu/">University of Pennslyvania</a>. According to his university biography, Katz’s positions deal with the “intersections of art history and queer history.”

In a 2016 article, Professor Katz<a href="http://www.buffalo.edu/ubnow/stories/2016/06/katz-orlando.html"> blamed</a> conservatives for the Pulse Nightclub shooting that claimed 49 lives. He wrote, “What we are trying to do here is camouflage the root of the problem, which is a long history of violent political rhetoric and homophobic policies by Republican officials and their conservative allies.”

Rather than Islamic Terrorism, he argued that anti-gay bigotry from the Christian right is a greater threat than ISIS.

Katz had previously<a href="https://www.catholicleague.org/the-american-taliban-catholic-league-2/"> referred</a> to The Catholic League, the nation’s largest Catholic civil rights organization, as “the American Taliban.”

<a href="https://mshp.med.upenn.edu/people/nadia-dowshen-md-mshp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nadia Dowshen</a> is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also the co-founder of the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania’s (CHOP) Sexuality and Gender Development Clinic. According to her university profile, the clinic provides medical and psychosocial support to more than 500 gender variant children and adolescents.

The Post Millennial reports that Dr. Dowshen <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/chops-gender-clinic-founder-says-age-is-just-a-number-when-advocating-for-double-mastectomies-for-healthy-14-year-old-girls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">testified before the Pennsylvania Health Committee</a> in a September 2020 hearing titled “Appropriate Care Models for Transgender Adolescents.” During the hearing, Representative David Zimmerman asked Dowshen what would be the youngest age that her clinic would refer a girl for a double mastectomy, or the removal of a girl's healthy breasts.

Dowshen replied that the majority of bilateral mastectomies performed at the clinic are performed on girls ages 16 through 18 but that she would refer children “as young as age 14.” She justified her decision by saying:
“I think it’s really important to remember that age is a number. As an adolescent medicine and development specialist, we know that where a child is cognitively and socially is more important than the exact number of their age.” 
Dr. Dowshen also commented on puberty blockers for children, stating “the major medical intervention that is considered fully reversible is puberty blocking medication.” <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/watch-chop-gender-clinic-co-founder-praises-rachel-levines-initiatives-for-medical-transition-of-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Post Millennial</a> reports that puberty blockers can cause brain swelling, vision loss, stunted growth, cognitive issues, and bone density loss, among other problems. When combined with cross-sex hormones, they can lead to sterility and a lack of sexual function.

During the Q&amp;A portion of the hearing, Dr. Dowshen admitted that the clinic <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/childrens-hospital-of-philadelphia-perform-medical-gender-transition-on-minors-in-foster-care" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accepts referrals from youth homeless shelters and the foster care system.</a> When asked by Representative Pamela A. Delissio how children “find their way” to the Gender and Sexuality Development Clinic, Dowshen replied:
“We are really getting referrals from a variety of resources. We’re also getting a lot more referrals from other institutions … Sometimes from within the foster care system, the mental health system, through homeless shelters for youth.” 
Dr. Dowshen co-published an op-ed for the Philadelphia Inquirer titled <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20211227195726/https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/transgender-athletes-sports-ban-pennsylvania-new-jersey-20210610.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“‘They just want the chance to play’: Reject transgender sports bans.”</a> The article states:
“The authors of bills to deny trans youth these opportunities say they want to protect other children and, particularly, prevent transgender girls from having what they say is an unfair advantage over other girls.” 
Dowshen then argues that there are not biological differences between girls and boys in sports:
“But these claims are based on misunderstandings of biology and hormones, have not been backed by any concrete examples of unfair athlete advantage, and are irrelevant to K-12 school sports.”

<a href="https://ldi.upenn.edu/fellows/fellows-directory/elle-lett-phd-ma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elle Lett</a>, Ph.D., is an Associate Fellow and MD Candidate in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. According to his university profile, Lett is a transgender woman who “applies the theory and principles of Black feminism to understanding the health impacts of systemic racism, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination on oppressed groups in the United States.”

Lett is also a <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/about/fellows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fellow at the Center for Applied Transgender Studies (CATS)</a>, “the leading academic organization dedicated to scholarship on the social, cultural, and political conditions of transgender lives.” According to the <a href="https://www.appliedtransstudies.org/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">center’s website</a>, their mission is to inform “policy-making and public discourse in ways that improve quality of life for the transgender community.”

Lett was quoted in a September 2021 article for STAT titled, <a href="https://www.statnews.com/2021/09/23/health-equity-tourists-white-scholars-colonizing-health-disparities-research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“‘Health equity tourists’: How white scholars are colonizing research on health disparities.”</a> The paper discusses how the field of health equity research has grown in recent years, but argues “researchers with little or no background or training in health research, often white and already well-funded, are rushing in to scoop up grants and publish papers.”

Lett states, “For this to be ethical and just, it requires you to redistribute some of your privilege and benefit.”

The article goes on to discuss a study, led by a white author, that “documented the lack of black medical school faculty.” STAT claims the study had similar findings to a study published three years earlier by black researchers, including Lett. In response to this, Lett says:
“It is troubling that a white man, who has had every privilege conferred on him, is writing a paper about the plight of Black academics. He is extracting from our pain for his career advancement.”

In October, the Twitter account belonging to Eyal Yakoby <a href="https://x.com/eyakoby/status/1845981387741860343?s=46" target="_blank" rel="noopener">republished</a> a post liked by <a href="https://x.com/annenortonnow?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Norton</a> that said, “Playing the victim is what Jews are best at.”

Norton was featured in an <a href="https://jewishunpacked.com/when-professors-cross-the-line-into-antisemitism-on-social-media/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> by Yakoby wherein he discussed Norton and other UPenn professors who used their personal social media accounts to promote “hatred for the Jewish people.” In particular, Norton was quoted telling her audience “Please don’t amplify” allegedly speaking about the Hamas’ massacre of 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023. The <a href="https://www.ajc.org/IsraelHamasWar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">violent terrorist attack</a> included rape, kidnapping, slaughtering infants, and burning victims alive.

Norton also made headlines in May 2024 when the media arm of Stop Antisemitism <a href="https://stopantisemitism.org/as-week/anne-norton/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> a profile revealing her leftist views on Israel. Additionally, Norton was named in a 2023 <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/12/13/news/upenns-anne-norton-losing-professorship-over-anti-israel-posts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> by the New York Post that said top donors were divesting from the university due to her outspoken antisemitic views. The Post said:

“Investors…confirmed to the Post they are in talks with UPenn to cut ties with Norton following a string of controversial posts and tweets, including endorsing a post claiming Jewish people are best at ‘playing the victim.’ The [donors] have sponsored Norton through [her] President’s Distinguished Professorship since 2018.” 

As of publication, the University of Pennsylvania has neither released a statement denouncing Norton’s views.

<a href="https://live-sas-www-polisci.pantheon.sas.upenn.edu/people/standing-faculty/anne-norton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anne Norton</a> is the Stacey and Henry Jackson President’s Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. According to her university profile, Norton’s research interests include “identity and history, gender and race, colonialism and post-colonialism, and tradition and revolution.”

Professor Norton has been outspoken about her support for the student-led <a href="https://www.fossilfreepenn.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fossil Free Penn</a> club. In November 2019, she <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2019/11/fossil-free-penn-fossil-fuels-ivy-league-upenn-philadelphia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed an open letter supporting the group</a> after the club interrupted a Board of Trustees meeting and demanded a town hall meeting with leadership about fossil fuel divestment.

The letter reads:
“While not all of us agree on every tactic the students may employ, we as faculty urge our colleagues and University administrators to hear them out, engage them constructively, and take much bolder action.”
It continues:
“Further, we believe that Penn should join the list of universities that have divested from fossil fuels, signaling an institutional commitment to the goals set forth by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in October 2018.” 
In April 2022, Norton <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2022/04/49-penn-faculty-support-ffp-encampment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed another letter</a> in support of Fossil Free Penn — the activist group had camped out for six days on campus to urge the university “to take a leadership role in stabilizing the world’s climate.” The letter says: “We believe that student activists are right to call for Penn to do more and we support their peaceful protest.”

In June 2021, Professor Norton signed a “statement of concern” titled <a href="https://www.newamerica.org/political-reform/statements/statement-of-concern/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Threats to American Democracy and the Need for National Voting and Election Administration Standards.”</a> The letter was circulated by New America, a liberal think tank, and signed by professors from across the country. The statement says:
“State legislatures have advanced initiatives that curtail voting methods now preferred by Democratic-leaning constituencies, such as early voting and mail voting. Republican lawmakers have openly talked about ensuring the “purity” and “quality” of the vote, echoing arguments widely used across the Jim Crow South as reasons for restricting the Black vote.” 
The letter acknowledges it is “always far better for major democracy reforms to be bipartisan,” but argues that in the “current hyper-polarized political context such broad bipartisan support is sadly lacking.” The statement ends with a call to action:
“We urge members of Congress to do whatever is necessary - including suspending the filibuster - in order to pass national voting and election administration standards that both guarantee the vote to all Americans equally, and prevent state legislatures from manipulating the rules in order to manufacture the result they want.”

<a href="https://hss.sas.upenn.edu/people/beans-velocci">Beans Velocci</a>, who uses the pronouns ‘they/them’, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Sociology of Science and Core Faculty in Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Velocci describes her work as using “queer, trans, and feminist methods to interrogate classification systems and how they become regarded as biological truths, primarily in the nineteenth- and twentieth-century United States and its colonial and white supremacist context.”

In a Penn Today article titled, “<a href="https://penntoday.upenn.edu/news/going-beyond-binary-historical-explorations-sex-and-gender">Going beyond the binary in historical explorations of sex and gender</a>,” Velocci describes how she first became interested in the field. She recounts being in an undergraduate course and reading a book called “Herculine Barbin,”—“a memoir of a person described as a ‘hermaphrodite.’” Velocci says:
“And it was in that moment that I was like, ‘There’s not something wrong with me. The issue is that gender is constructed!’” 
Velocci says she began plotting a career path with the goal, “to be a historian and destroy the gender binary with history and primary source analysis.”

When asked by Penn Today about the relevancy of her work, Velocci says:
“I don’t have the privilege to not be relevant; state legislators are making it impossible not to be. I hope the conversations we have in class help my students think about and make sense of what’s going on in the world right now.” 
In June 2020, Velocci wrote an article titled “<a href="https://avidly.lareviewofbooks.org/2020/06/04/these-uncertain-times/">These Uncertain Times</a>.” In this piece, she argues that much of what the news and social media classify as ‘uncertain’ is rather ‘inconvenient knowledge’ or ‘manufactured ignorance’ that someone is benefitting from. To provide an example, she claims:
“The US government acknowledging that people aren’t so easily classified as male and female would, at the very least, mean they would have to find something to do other than legislate against trans people trying to pee in public (maybe they could have spent that time preparing for a pandemic instead).” 
Velocci argues that “Covid-19 is disproportionately killing black and brown people” and “the Trump administration has spent the pandemic thus far artificially lowering the caseload numbers by refusing to make testing widely accessible (how’s that for manufactured ignorance).” She claims:

<a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/people/mae-eskenazi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mae Eskenazi</a> is a Graduate Associate in the Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Department at the University of Pennsylvania.

Eskenazi is teaching a fall 2023 course titled, “Intro to Disability Studies.” According to the course description, this class “fuses disability studies, queer theory, Black feminist theory, visuality studies, film theory, and disabled artistic practices.”

<a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2023/06/disability-studies-new-fall-course" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Pennsylvanian</a> reports, “Eskenazi said that the questions explored through the course remain extremely relevant to the contemporary world, particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic, current financial precarity, and ‘ongoing racialized and gendered logics of colonialism and imperialism.’” Additional <a href="https://www.thecollegefix.com/penn-disability-studies-course-to-fuse-visuality-studies-queer-black-feminist-and-film-theory/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">course topics</a> include crip theory, the AIDS epidemic, and sensorial artistic practice, among others.

When discussing the course, Eskenazi stated:
“Disability, debilitation, and illness are facets of everydayness, so I hope that this course removes disability from the visual spectacle that it causes and instead posits lived experiences of disability and debilitation into everyday life for the students who are studying.” 
According to Eskenazi’s university profile, she is a “transgender person” who uses they/them pronouns. Her profile reads,
“Mae Eskenazi (they/them) is a visual artist and ritualist whose interdisciplinary approach extends across sculpture, lens-based media, installation, plant medicine, and performance. Calling upon lineages of disabled/trans carework, Mae is interested in the enmeshment of BDSM, the medical industrial complex, mobility, and disability as it relates to biopolitical surveillance, control, and dichotomies of pain/pleasure. 
Curious about the invocation of the somatic and haptic, their work situates itself within questions of grief, memory, and collective amnesia as it unfolds beyond teleological temporalities within trans, disabled, chronically ill, and queer life.” 
Her <a href="https://www.meskenazi.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">personal website</a> features several pieces of her “work,” including the “(Im)Mobility Appendage.

“(Im)Mobility Appendage is a live performance that explores the tension between the visible wound and the tacit wound. Over the course of one hour, viewers watch a kneeling figure get pierced twenty-six times followed by each piercing being strung to the wall like outstretched wings. The performance calls upon viewers to actively bear witness to the intimacy and eroticization of pain.” 
Eskenazi’s other works include projects titled “The Tetherings” and “Offerings to Bob Flanagan” among other less family-friendly projects that can be found on her website.

<a href="https://www.english.upenn.edu/people/melissa-e-sanchez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Melissa Sanchez</a> is the Donald T. Regan Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. She’s also the Director of the <a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Program in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies</a> and the <a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/center/about" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies</a>. According to her university profile, Sanchez’s research and literature focuses on “feminism, queer theory, and sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature.”

Sanchez is the author of three books.“<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Queer-Faith-Promiscuity-Tradition-Cultures/dp/1479840866" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Queer Faith</a>: Reading Promiscuity and Race in the Secular Love Tradition” reassesses “key texts of the pre-history of modern monogamy - from Paul to Luther, Petrarch to Shakespeare - to show that writing assumed to promote fidelity in fact articulates the perversity of desire and the elusiveness of self-knowledge.”

Her other books are “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-Queer-Theory/dp/1474256678" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shakespeare and Queer Theory</a>” and “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Erotic-Subjects-Sexuality-Politics-Literature/dp/0199754756" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Erotic Subjects</a>: The Sexuality of Politics in Early Modern English Literature.” The latter “examines how sixteenth- and seventeenth-century writers used scenarios of erotic violence and cross-gender identification to explore the origins and limits of political allegiance.”

In April 2022, Sanchez participated in one of the School of Arts and Sciences “<a href="https://www.facebook.com/PennSAS/videos/60-second-lecture-melissa-sanchez/1309588992779918/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">60-Second Lectures</a>.” She discussed why the executive board of the Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) changed the name of their research center to the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer and Transgender Studies (FQT Center).
“This change was meant to signal a more inclusive understanding of who our center is for, and more explicitly to demonstrate the center’s and the program’s commitment to solidarity with all women and all sexual and gendered minorities across campus.” 
Sanchez said GSWS and the FQT Center have a particular focus on “trans affirmative policies.” She discusses her opinion on the supposed lack of all-gender bathrooms on campus and the difficulty of accessing gender-affirming care. Sanchez claimed:
“These conditions in higher education are but a piece of a national climate in which the human rights and dignity of trans, non-binary and gender nonconforming persons are at best neglected and at worse willfully violated.” 
After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Sanchez was quoted in an article titled, “‘<a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2022/07/abortion-penn-philadelphia-supreme-court-roe-wade-upenn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A gut punch</a>’ Penn community reacts to uncertainty of abortion rights in Pennsylvania.” Sanchez stated:
“The ruling was like a gut punch, and in other ways it was exactly what I was expecting and exactly what’s been coming for decades. [This ruling is] not so much like a turning point as a culmination of what’s been happening since the 1970s. It’s more like a nail in the coffin.” 
Sanchez is also an outspoken supporter of <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2019/11/fossil-free-penn-fossil-fuels-ivy-league-upenn-philadelphia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">divesting from fossil fuels</a>. In November 2019, students from Fossil Free Penn interrupted the University’s Board of Trustees meeting to demand that administrators agree to a town hall meeting with students about fossil fuel divestment. In the wake of this incident, several faculty—including Sanchez—signed an open letter to the university that stated, in part:
“At the very least, the University leadership should agree to the town hall that the students are calling for and commit to a candid and open-minded deliberative dialogue on this uniquely pressing issue. Further, we believe that Penn should join the list of universities that have divested from fossil fuels, signaling an institutional commitment to the goals set forth by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in October 2018.”

<a href="https://mec.sas.upenn.edu/people/huda-fakhreddine" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Huda Fakhreddine</a> is an Associate Professor of Arabic Literature at the University of Pennsylvania.

Professor Fakhreddine helped organize the <a href="https://nelc.sas.upenn.edu/events/2023/09/22/palestine-writes-literature-festival" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palestine Writes Literature Festival</a> that was held on the University of Pennsylvania campus in September 2023. After the university came under fire for hosting the event, Fakhreddine said the festival’s promoters “reject the suggestion that we would invite or engage anyone who is antisemitic or endorses antisemitism.”

Fakhreddine shared her frustration with the “conflation between criticism of Israel and antisemitism.” She added, “The assumption that supporting Palestinians means antisemitic sentiment is ignorant and racist.”

However, festival participant Refaat Alareer was featured in <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article/upenn-reportedly-sponsored-palestinian-writer-who-joked-about-hamas-burning-baby-in-oven-after-it-allegedly-ignored-warnings-/24292" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Campus Reform</a> after he “took to X to mock the Jewish baby that Hamas terrorists cooked alive in an oven during the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks.”

<a href="https://www.algemeiner.com/2023/09/12/are-most-jews-evil-top-us-university-hosting-palestine-literature-festival-featuring-avid-anti-zionists/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Algemeiner</a> notes that Alareer has shared antisemitic sentiments on his X/Twitter account since 2018, when he tweeted, “Are most Jews evil? Of course they are.”

On October 16, 2023, Fakhreddine <a href="https://www.algemeiner.com/2023/10/18/israeli-jew-has-bastardized-judaism-pro-palestinian-rally-upenn-descends-antisemitism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participated in a walkout</a> at the University of Pennsylvania to “protest the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza.” Fakhreddine spoke at the walk-out rally, stating:
“Israel is the epitome of antisemitism … it desecrates the memory of the Holocaust victims. It humiliates every Jewish person.” 
<a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2023/09/penn-palestine-writes-literature-festival-magill-statement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Pennsylvanian</a> reports that participants in the rally also criticized University President M. Elizabeth Magill’s statement on the conflict. Magill’s statement referred to the Hamas attacks as a “terrorist assault” and clarified the university’s stance on the Palestine Writes Literature Festival:
“The University did not, and emphatically does not, endorse these speakers or their views. While we did communicate, we should have moved faster to share our position strongly and more broadly with the Penn community.” 
In <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2023/10/penn-walkout-palestine-rally-march-magill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">response to Magill’s comments</a>, Fakhreddine said, “[The statement] was a complete shock to me. I could not fathom that in the midst of actual literal genocide being broadcasted live on the air, [Magill] had time and energy to write that letter without a single mention of Palestine.”

On October 27, 2023, Fakhreddine posted a petition titled “<a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfklLdVWlH1yNSK3T4mINpIhbx8T6uiBxReVOMhTNb9EbitRQ/viewform" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Academics Against the Assault on Gaza</a>” on her <a href="https://twitter.com/FakhreddineHuda/status/1717946669004710374" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter account</a>, with the message “Sign and Circulate.” The letter states:
“We are concerned academics watching with horror as Israel subjects 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, more than half of them refugees, to industrial-scale violence of unfathomable proportions, to war crime after grotesque war crime, to siege and starvation.”
“We say, ‘Enough!’ No to another forced mass displacement of Palestinians! No to fascist incitement! No to the sadistic collective punishment of a captive population! No to this nihilistic and gainless war!” 
Fakhreddine <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfOnCRPGqU6IMiq9p_2xthefc9g8R_3UE0UOpXc6nlAO_FL_g/viewform" target="_blank" rel="noopener">circulated another statement</a> on <a href="https://twitter.com/FakhreddineHuda/status/1714944831649182082" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a> that stated:
“Israel is a racist apartheid regime. It hates innocence so kills children. It hates the truth so kills journalists. It hates nature so uproots olive trees.”
It concludes:
“We, the undersigned, take this opportunity to stand with our people in Gaza, in particular, and Palestine in general, in solidarity with their legendary resilience and their struggle in defense of their historical right to their land. We salute their courageous stance against the forces of colonization, fascism, and racism.”

<a href="https://creative.writing.upenn.edu/people/ahmad-almallah" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ahmad Almallah</a> is a Palestinian poet and artist in Residence in the Creative Writing and English departments at the University of Pennsylvania.

On October 16, 2023, Almallah <a href="https://www.jns.org/upenn-fire-your-antisemitic-professors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">participated in a walkout</a> on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus to “protest the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza.” Almallah was the first faculty member to speak at the rally and shared that he had missed two of his classes to be present at the event.

Professor Almallah led chants of “from the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” and “resistance is justified, when you are occupied.” <a href="https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/upenn-palestine-rally-what-the-editorials-wont-post/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Times of Israel</a> writes,
“The former implies a desire for a Palestinian state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, and, consequently, the erasure of the State of Israel entirely. The latter seems to justify Palestinian terrorism without qualification, be it bombing civilians on buses or murdering entire families in Israeli villages.” 
Almallah told the crowd:
“When for 17 years, a piece of earth was removed from the world, only to sustain the slow murder of its jailed population … its mothers who have been giving birth to human animals, according to the other side. SHAME!” 
He concluded his speech by shouting “Intifada, intifada, intifada,” which has long been a Palestinian call to murder Jews and Jewish Israelis. The protest lasted roughly seven hours, with protesters waving Palestinian flags and <a href="https://www.algemeiner.com/2023/10/18/israeli-jew-has-bastardized-judaism-pro-palestinian-rally-upenn-descends-antisemitism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">chanting slogans</a> such as, “Israel, Israel, you can’t hide, we caught you in genocide.”

Almallah told <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2023/10/penn-walkout-palestine-rally-march-magill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Pennsylvanian</a> he wanted to participate in the event because he wanted to “do something to reaffirm [his] humanity.” He also told the newspaper, “I feel as though I am a lonely Palestinian, that nobody has reached out from the institution or extended any words of sympathy to me.”

<a href="https://gsws.sas.upenn.edu/people/sophie-lewis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sophie Lewis</a> is a visiting scholar at the Center for Research in Feminist, Queer, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. According to her university profile, her scholarship “operates in the spheres of trans feminist cultural criticism and queer social reproduction theory, and [her] interests include utopian critiques of the family, Marxist feminisms, Black radicalism and antiwork theory.” Lewis authored “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Abolish-Family-Manifesto-Care-Liberation/dp/1839767197" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Abolish the Family: A Manifesto for Care and Liberation</a>” which makes the case for family abolition. She also wrote “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Full-Surrogacy-Now-Feminism-Against/dp/1786637294" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Full Surrogacy Now: Feminism Against Family</a>” which advocates for higher rates of surrogacy to “overthrow” the family.

After Hamas terrorists attacked Israel in October 2023, Lewis <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=24238" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed a statement</a> titled, “Writers in Solidarity with Palestine.” The letter begins, “We are writers who unequivocally stand with Palestine and its fight for liberation against the illegal occupation of ‘Israel’ and the violent settler colonial apartheid state.”

Some of the letter’s claims include: 
<ul>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“The west is actively backing the ongoing settler colonial project that endorses either a slow or fast genocide, but is genocide either way.”</li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Any form of Palestinian resistance is in no way equivalent to the daily violence of ‘Israeli’ settlers, the IOF (‘Israeli’ Occupying Forces), and the entire ‘Israeli’ state apparatus. Palestinian resistance exists because settler colonial occupation exists.” </li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“The resistance is an ongoing response to a long history of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.” </li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“Politicians at all levels of government internationally, primarily those in the west, are deliberately weaponizing islamophobic and orientalist language in order to manufacture consent for genocide in Palestine, heighten surveillance and policing domestically, and suppress any manner of showing solidarity with Palestine.” </li>
</ul>
The writers end with several “calls to action” for the signatories and their institutions, including: 
<ul>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“To stand in firm, vocal, and unwavering solidarity with Palestinian resistance against their occupation until liberation, by amplifying Palestinian voices in a time of mass disinformation and silencing; and by openly discussing the occupation in your workplace, home, on social media, in your work.” </li>

 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“To boycott all other literary institutions who profess Zionist affiliations.” </li>
 	<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">“To engage with the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, a Palestinian-led movement to end international support for ‘Israel’s’ oppression of Palestinians and all institutions complicit in ‘Israeli’ apartheid and settler colonialism.” </li>
</ul>

<a href="https://www.asc.upenn.edu/people/faculty/dwayne-booth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dwayne Booth</a> is a Lecturer at the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. Booth, who goes by the pen name Mr. Fish, joined the faculty in 2015 and has been a cartoonist for 20 years.

Booth came under fire after the <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/penn-lecturer-is-behind-grotesque-anti-semitic-cartoons/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington Free Beacon</a> discovered political cartoons about the Israel-Hamas war that were posted on his website. The Free Beacon reports:
“[Booth] has published several anti-Semitic cartoons since Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, including one that depicts Zionists sipping Gazan blood from wine glasses, a version of the ancient blood libel employed in anti-Semitic propaganda that accused Jews of using the blood of Christian children for baking matzah and other rituals.”

In <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/dwayne-booth-penn-political-cartoons-antisemitism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">response to Booth</a>, Penn’s Interim President J. Larry Jameson wrote:
“I will not, and should not, respond to every event on our campus, but I want it understood that these political cartoons, posted on a personal website, were not taught in the classroom and do not reflect the views of the University of Pennsylvania or me, personally. I find them reprehensible, with antisemitic symbols, and incongruent with our efforts to fight hate.” 
Jameson added:
“At Penn, we have a bedrock commitment to open expression and academic freedom, principles that were unanimously reaffirmed last week by our Faculty Senate Executive Committee. We also have a responsibility to challenge what we find offensive, and to do so acknowledging the right and ability of members of our community to express their views, however loathsome we find them.”
In a follow-up article, the <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/penn-president-will-not-act-to-remove-anti-semitic-cartoonist-from-faculty-citing-bedrock-commitment-to-open-expression/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Free Beacon</a> criticized Jameson’s response, saying he made it clear the university would not act to discipline or remove Booth from the faculty:
“Jameson’s tepid response … raises questions about whether the school has implemented meaningful changes in the wake of former president Liz Magill’s dismissal in December and the establishment of a task force on anti-Semitism.” 
In response to the university’s statement, Booth <a href="https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/penn-lecturer-criticized-for-creating-reprehensible-antisemitic-cartoons/3766737/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defended his comments</a> and argued that work could be “misread.”
“Political artists have always had to grapple with the possibility that a misreading of their work, willing or otherwise, could disrupt the intention and usability of their commentary, thereby complicating the trajectory of whatever debate might follow.” 
“In the case of the international conversation about the current war in Gaza, it will be impossible to have a substantive debate over the specifics and potential outcomes so long as there remains a lazy conflation that makes the State of Israel and the politics that guide its actions as a nation inseparable from Judaism, itself.” 
On February 5, 2024, Booth <a href="https://www.thedp.com/article/2024/02/penn-lecturer-political-cartoons-antisemitism-controversy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a cartoon</a> entitled “Quiet!” which showed Uncle Sam with his hand over a person’s mouth. The caption read, “Critical thinking is bad for America.”

According to a <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2020/09/16/study-up-to-95-percent-of-2020-u-s-riots-are-linked-to-black-lives-matter/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study conducted by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED)</a>, BLM can be linked to 95% of the riots around the country–notably in Summer 2020 following the death of George Floyd.
